Eve Online? (just cause no-one's guessed it yet)

That or maybe Star Citizen? Ok, those are my two guesses :-)

Catventurer: Is this Everspace 2?

Duke Garland: Nope, but a closer guess than the X series. The game in question does have some "classical" RPG mechanics though.

Dark_Light748: Homeworld 3?

Duke Garland: RTS have been ruled out previously, hence this is also a "no", sorry!

New screen, no UI for now.
Rebel Galaxy?

No. But you're free to try me with EvE screenshots neXt time you're on. Granted I'm no longer playing since around summer 2019 but I've spent way too much time with the game... xD

kalirion: Rebel Galaxy?
Getting closer, the two games play out similar enough in my opinion, but the one I'm looking for sports captain/crew level up mechanics AND you get the full 3D maneuvering eXperience as opposed to Rebel GalaXy.

New screen, this time with spaceflight UI.
*edit: to avoid confusion, the screens you can take in the game (using the photo mode) come in 4k resolution and I am indeed playing in regular full-HD. Downscaled that screen a bit too much, but fiXed it now.

Skipping a screenshot this time, but since there have been no more guesses so far it's time for another hint:

The game in question joined the GOG catalogue in 2019 as early access title, made by an indie dev that currently has two seperate games (plus soundtracks) on GOG.

If there are still no more guesses I'll post the release year tomorrow, because that will basically narrow it down to a handful games overall.

Googling the terms <2019 gog early access space> came up with Astrox Imperium as the first result, and looking at the screenshots it seems plausible.

Certainly a good guess, and also a game in my library (heavily inspired by and created to be a sort of "EvE-Offline" by one lone guy). Unfortunately wrong since AstroX Imperium is still tagged "in dev" - the game I'm looking for has been released.

And since it was the intend to yesterday already (but thank you, RL...): the game was released ine the first half of 2024.

Finally got the game, it's Between the Stars
Wow what a riddle you did there :)
I curious tho why you captilized every x letter, it tricks me into thinking it was a title from the X series lol

Aaand you are correct!
I didn't think it'd take so long myself - but I guess y'all good people aren't playing space games as much as I do in comparison to total gaming time.... Or maybe you do and the title is just too niche. Granted it's not outstandingly spectacular but it gets the job done just right and I'm having a lot of fun with it myself.

Secondly, my apologies @kalirion for omitting your Elite: Dangerous suggestion, it slipped by.... And to answer Takashi's question in as little waste of time as possible: it basically started out as a typo I eventually got stuck with. A habit by now you could say. Doing that pretty much all the time eXcept when using smileys....

Have fun posting! :D

Ninja Turtles, Batman, Predator, and ... is that Ninja Gaiden or Castlevania or something? Not familiar enough with console gaming to tell.

Either way, hard to believe a game would legitimately have licenses to all of these.
There are no original assets on the screen, I don't think really have the inclination to trawl through 20 year old flash games on Newgrounds in the hope that I stumble across it, sorry.
It looks like an old 16-bit console game. Beyond that, all I can say is that this isn't a Mega Drive / Genesis game as I played a ton of those. I don't know the other consoles as well to say for any certainty.... but I think that SultanOfSuave is most likely correct in that this is an old flash game that is made to look like an old console game.

When it comes to old flash games, the only ones that I enjoyed were the ones that did something different than what was on consoles like Defend Your Castle and Pandemic 2, which means that I wouldn't know where to even start to figure out what game this is.

Im going to guess Fraymakers. Never played it, but I believe its possible to make famous characters in it.

Fraymakers characters are from iconic indie games, while this game uses assets & characters from iconic games of "pixel" era. Though the mechanics are very similar.
All I can say for now is that it's an unlicensed fangame on PC that never reached a full release state (pretty much abandoned now), and it's not a flash game. It did reach late beta state tho so fully playable.
another screenshot tomorrow morning (it's still 1.30 pm rn)

Okay, I am 99% confident that this is something that either uses MUGEN or something very similar.

edit - MUGEN is/was a Street Fighter 2 style game engine, which allowed you to import fighters into it. Consequentially, people would do things like rip sprites from other games, including non-fighting games, to import them in. I hope that helps everyone else narrow down what this is.
