foxgog: The dialogue I posted earlier together with the first screenshot is not taken directly from the game in question (or any other game)!
It was merely a reference to a scene in one of the "Shrek" animation movies which it reminded me of, because of the ridiculous distance indication on the sign in the game in question.

Catventurer: So is the current screenshot from the actual game?

Asking because we can't really guess the game if we're only getting pictures not from the game. Also the art in the latest images don't really match the prior image.
Hello Catventurer!

All pictures I have posted so far for this game are taken directly from within the game during actual gameplay!

Only the accompanying picture descriptions that I add in my posts may not appear in the game, neither in written nor spoken form. They are merely intended to do some word play on the motives and contents of each screenshot, since the game itself leans heavily into comedy.

The first picture, 01_way_home.jpg, is the result of me connecting through copy and paste (in paint) two consecutive screenshots from the same camera pan movement in game, using a third screenshot in order to edit out the characters and single hud elements in the upper left and right corners.

The second image, 01_correction.jpg, is an unedited screenshot from the game from another (different) sign post only a few screens away from the one I stitched together!
Kalirion's reaction to the distance measure prompted me to use the actual ingame joke about the same subject of the ridiculous distance back home.

The third, fourth and fifth picture(s)--02a_rapunzel.jpg / 02b_rapunzel.jpg / 02c_rapunzel.jpg--are all real screenshots from a totally different scene in the game, were you have to solve this little puzzle sequence around the German fairy tale (originally with Rapunzel and her long hair being rescued by a prince in shiny armor from the tower she is locked up in) with the twist of the exchange of the character's roles.
Obviously, the game switches to an entirely different form and style of representation (you can call it 'perspective'), because a a children's book is being opened ingame and then playing out the scene(s) within that book.

Hello kalirion!

I get the impression, that you might be focussed too much on my added comments (descriptions) instead of the actual screenshots--maybe, because you do not recognize the pictures.

Hint:
I tend to post screenshots from later game stages and usually ones that are not present on the game pages; the fairy tale scene is near the end of the game in question.

I will pick the next set of screenshots from earlier situations inside the game, if those are not enough, then I am going to post ones including the main protagonists (player characters).

Kind regards,
foxgog
Hello everyone!

Here is a screenshot from about the midpoint of the game.

It's a four in the row/column mini game.

Hello kalirion!

That is correct, the screenshots were all from "Lost in Play"!

I especially liked, how the game initially portrays the kids at their home--being bored--then switching to their imagined phantasy world, but in the end showing alongside the end credits polaroid pictures of what and where they actually did play and with what. (See in the attached screenshots)
It reminded me a bit on the stories in both "Heart of Darkness" (from Eric Chai, "Another World"-developer) and "TSIOQUE" (both available here at GOG.COM, by the way).

Now it is your turn again, kalirion!

Kind regards,
foxgog

Nope
This reminds me of Submerged: Hidden Depths, but I'm pretty sure that it isn't that game - just one with similar visuals.
As a textual hint, I'll mention the promotional material and not most screenshots you'll see online in general for this game would probably have the player character's default outfit which looks nothing like what I have in the screenshot.

In the 3+ years since it's release, the game has been in *checking isthereanydeals* in 0 bundles! That's surprising. It regularly goes for super cheap on sales which is how I must have gotten it.

In fact, it's on a sale for dirt cheap right now on ya'lls (probably) favorite site.

It isn't, no.

Searching the shop for eXploration and adventure games that are on sale I conclude that it might be Wavetale given that it's also 95% discounted right now... Just so happens to be released a little over 3 years ago - that hint of yours was too much in case this is the correct solution! :D

You got it! From my experience, few people in this game are willing to put in even that amount of research, so don't worry about it :)

Your turn!
Unfortunately RL hit me and I won't likely have time to post something before Saturday (maybe even Sunday), unless somebody feels like taking over I'm afraid you'll have to wait a little. :/
Well, enough time to post the main menu screen - and a "hint" already: the game isn't available on GOG for a change.

Feared as much... But don't make it too difficult either, your turn! :D
