Catventurer: Although I normally would use screen shots from whatever I happen to be playing, which is still Ikenfell... I will instead be posting a screenshot of what I intend to play next thus your guess is automatically wrong.
Can't blame me for trying! (Obviously you weren't going to pick that game after posting about it.)
Anyhow I've no idea what to look for here, I certainly don't know this one. Given the "typical" layout of what I think could be a side-scroller, some sort of "reverse boss rush" comes into mind where you're the boss and have to dump the attackers...
Might be a "clicker" game.

You are correct in that the humans are the enemy.

Not a clicker. It would be more accurate to say that it is an Action Roguelike/lite from what I've seen.

New screenshot. Here's the level up screen. You can level up to get stronger at destroying stuff.

Hint: This game is on GOG.

Hello Catventurer!

I am pretty sure this is "Monster Run - Downfall of the Empire".
I do recall that you posted in its release thread here. Afterall, its a game in which the main protagonist is a huge cat-like creature. Other than that, it reminded me a bit of the "Rampage" titles--gameplaywise. :b

Kind regards,

Hi, foxgog! You are correct! This is Monster Run and with that, I will be off to go destroy more evil humans.

It is now your turn!
Hello everyone!

Summer Catchers? Played that one last year for a while before losing interest, and this makes me think of that game. Though the distance on the sign seems a bit extreme...

Is that from Thimbleweed Park?

Hello kalirion!

"Summer Catchers" (Dreamlist entry) looks very intriguing. Unfortunately, it is neither available on GOG.COM nor the game in question.

And indeed, the distance on the sign is off by one kilometer! :b (see attachment)

Hello FrodoBaggins!

No, it is not "Thimbleweed Park" either. It does not feature low resolution pixel art as these two examples from both of you. However, FrodoBaggins, you are in the correct genre of quirky point and click adventure games!

On monday evening after work, I am going to post the next screenshot(s).

Is it Return To Monkey Island?

In Return to Monkey Island, Guybrush apparently says something like “Oh no… not yet” when entering the theme-park version of Melee Island toward the end

There’s also a fan-captioned image that pairs Guybrush with the caption “Are we there yet?” in a community meme, but that’s not from the actual game dialogue. - https://community.telltale.com/discussion/14920/monkey-island-caption-contest-7-a-rubber-chicken-with-a-caption-in-the-middle

None of these fit an actual Monkey island game. or indeed any known game anywhere.
Sorry i cant be more help.

Hello FrodoBaggins and SableNoctis!

The screenshots are not from the "Monkey Island" series of adventure games.

The dialogue I posted earlier together with the first screenshot is not taken directly from the game in question (or any other game)!
It was merely a reference to a scene in one of the "Shrek" animation movies which it reminded me of, because of the ridiculous distance indication on the sign in the game in question.

Of course, I edited out the characters from the screenshots and stitched a few of them together in order to have the entire sign visible in one shot (not the case during actual gameplay where the camera pans from left to right and vice versa).

Let me post the next screenshot(s) to give you a further hint, as promised:

(inverse fairy tale) "Let down your ̶h̶a̶i̶r̶ beard, ̶r̶a̶p̶u̶n̶c̶e̶l̶ prince..."

Kind regards,
foxgog

So is the current screenshot from the actual game?

Asking because we can't really guess the game if we're only getting pictures not from the game. Also the art in the latest images don't really match the prior image.
