MadalinStroe: Thanks for that, but your link just proves my point: flat screen are TN panels, while VA panels are curved.

teceem: And IPS monitors are what?
What I was saying is that currently, you can only find TN panels in flat screen monitors, and VA panels in curved screen monitors.

However, to answer your question, when it comes to the difference between IPS, VA and TN panels:
Colors: TN < VA < IPS
Black: TN < IPS < VA
Viewing angles: TN << IPS = VA
Response times: IPS < VA < TN
Price: TN << VA < IPS

BreOl72: What's the problem with curved monitors?

Nothing wrong with curved monitors, if you own one and you are enjoying it, then that's good for you. I personally don't want one, which is why I was looking for a flat screen. If you are looking for a good site that actually knows how to properly test monitors, try pcmonitors.info. They also have recommendations.

In theory. Then you meet black crush. Yeah, sure, it's a deep black but .. that's not how it's supposed to work.

I seriously hate black crush :(

Don't know if I want another VA monitor. Don't know what else to buy though. *sigh*

I don't like IPS backlight glow either, but it's not the sort of nag that the shifting image from black crush or TN color shift is. I think only IPS can provide me with an image that feels "static" and not something that looks different to each eye and constantly shifts around due to subtle head motion.

Maybe I'll just buy some dirt cheap TN crap, at least I won't regret having spent another 1000 eur on a "high end" monitor with obvious annoying faults.

CRTs were so nice!

You can find plenty of non-curved IPS monitors (I don't know about VA, you might be right). And I know the general panel differences.

I'm still happy with my Dell U2715H (27" IPS 1440P 60Hz, feature-packed). It can pivot, but I have no need for it. I don't play twitchy or competitive games, so no need for a higher refresh rate - 60 Hz is plenty smooth for me.

Any game that has animations will feel smoother at 144Hz, ovr 60Hz. You don't need to play twitchy games.

Animations? Do you also watch movies, tv shows and cartoons at 144 fps?
I've started a topic about it - If a game that's locked at 30 fps can feel as smooth as 60 fps (for me) then I'm sure I won't care about anything higher. But that doesn't mean that YOU shouldn't go for whatever makes you happy. ;-)

I think it's great, it saves me money!
I have a VA flatscreen, but it's 60Hz, not 144Hz. No black crush to speak of, but the blacks aren't really that black, it's physically impossible to get actual black with anything backlit. Couldn't deal with IPS light bleed and TN is iffy. Bring on µLED (hope it works out better than OLED). And yes, >60Hz is better. I had a CRT that could do 120Hz on 800x600 and below, and once you get used to that, 60fps doesn't seem smooth after all. 30fps is basically a slideshow. I had to install a fps unlock mod for Gothic 1, since the default locked 30fps was literally giving me a headache.

This is the third post where you make a strawman out of my argument. I was talking about game animations, you brought up up films/thv shows and cartoons. Of course that if the content is locked at 30 fps, you'll not notice any difference if you watch it on a higher Hz monitor. I also wasn't talking about pre-rendered video, such as an intro clip for a video game. I was obviously talking about in game animations for game engines that allow 144 and higher frame rates.

About saving money... for example you can find the AOC C24G1 is 144Hz, FreeSync, VA panel at $160(currently on Amazon). I don't know what else you could find cheaper than than, because that's a top quality monitor.

I have a VA panel, and I've also never ran into black crush, or at least I've never noticed it enough to become an issue for me. Honestly I've always been happy with my decision to go for a VA panel over an IPS, when I had the opportunity 7 years ago. My monitor is still going strong, but I'd really want to try 144Hz, because once I'll inevitably end up being forced to play games at 1440p or higher, since that's the trend gaming seems to be heading, those 144 framerates will be unachievable on anything other than top of the line, $1500 graphics cards. Nvidia are shameless with their overpriced $1400 RTX 2080Ti.
I've yet to see a VA monitor without black crush...
