toxicTom: But that's so much GOG, it'd be hilarious if it weren't so sad. Remember "we listen to your feedback"? The Warsaw community expedition? The "you now all have profiles" desaster? Shoving the Galaxy 2 beta down everybody's throat, when Galaxy 1 was finally stable?

They are completely inept at dealing with their user base. I mean, I also wouldn't want to have a company with a huge PR department glossing and sugar-coating over every mistake with silver tongues - we have enough of those already... but, seriously... it has stopped being kind of cute a long time ago.
I remember all of it, and at this point I'm not sure anymore if I'm still willing to put up with it in the future. So I'm doubtful there's still anything they could do to restore trust. I've lost hope that they'll ever make an honest effort to try and improve their communication with the original fanbase. The audience that GOG is catering to has changed and I no longer feel part of it. I still have my games here, but I fear me trying to convince other gamers that GOG is a store worth supporting because it's so "gamer-friendly", that's a thing of the past.

samuraigaiden: People who idolize companies have mental issues and should seek treatment. That being said, CDPR will keep patching CP2077 and GOG will keep selling DRM free games and 6 months from now everything will be back to business as usual.
or will be ?

Expecting a small human to make a stand against a tank is also quite ridiculous.

Lol, true, because Marx wrote all that down more than a hundred years ago. People should know by now how it works.

Yeah I've also stopped recommending them left and right. I mean it has always been a bit embarrassing with the sorry state of the website and all, but really don't feel like making that effort anymore.
I think, what really did me, was the Epic store integration in Galaxy.

Doing it is brave (and most people don't know that guy had a chat with the tank commander even).

Expecting it of someone is indeed ridiculous.

Easy.

1 admit they rushed cyberpunk out the door and that they will fix their mistake. They don't even have to apologise, just admit it and move on to fix it.

2 put devotion back on gog and promise they won't let censorship get in the way of their games again and promise to take a firm stance against censorship of any kind in gaming.

That's all they have to do and I will start spending money on their products again.

On a side note some extra things they could do is work harder on releasing old defunct games on gog and give updates and time frames on when cyberpunk will get ps5 upgrades. I'm not interested in cyberpunk till it's fully supporting ps5.

I'm not really expecting GOG to do it, but I really want them to.

Sure, it might have some bad consequences for GOG, and it would be a somewhat big risk for them to take, I get that. I don't know how many others have requested their accounts to be deleted and are leaving, probably not enough to make the choice that hard for GOG.

At this point I just want anyone to stand up to the tank, just to show people that the strength of the tank doesn't lie in its gun or its armour. It lies in intimidating people to get out of its way.

Right now nothing, people are out for blood at this point of time.
Everything good they might achieve or how honest and decent their statements get now will either be ignored or tried to be turned against them.

Not saying anything might be the best option right now.

Later on, once people calmed down a bit:
-fix the issues and improve to a standart higher that you promised
-don't repeat the mistakes for at least 2 games maybe even longer (preferably never again but let's be real, if not people investors will push them to an early release again at some point, probably as soon as the customers trust is back to a level where the threat of another CP scenario doesn't sound realistic enough to shareholders anymore)
-explanations and apologies will help, but they're unlikely to calm anyone down or change their opinion

As for other points:
-the Devotion situation:
It's a shitty move and deserves ny outrage, but most people don't care even most of those angry now will have forgotten about it soon.
It's sad, but that's how it always is.
-Content locked behind Galaxy:
Even among the people on GOG not enough of them care about it, they can reverse it but in terms of regaining trust the effect would be almost nonexistent.

I disagree here. As long as this persist, it'll be a sting in the side of every user who really cares about DRM-free.
Fixing it might not "restore" that much trust, but it'll remove one source of a constant drain of it. Because as long as this persists, people like me will keep thinking "How will they harm DRM-free next?"

1. Apologize for lying about why they banned Devotion and fire the tweeter who posted the lie.

2. Release Devotion on GOG before the end of December 2020.

3. Permanently reduce the standard price of Cyberpunk to $29.99 USD. Or, create a free 30-hour-long story campaign for it that will never have any cost attached to it.

4. Take Cyberpunk off the market on all platforms for the next year or two, or how ever long it takes them to make it into a good game.

Release a bunch of Winnie the Pooh games. Have them front-page and center.

That might be true for you and don't get me wrong I'm also bothered by it but we're the minority in their games' playerbase.
Even here on GOG in general there aren't that many who care about DRM beyond the existence of an offline installer of the main content being avaible.

Genocide2099: They can start by making that Devotion game available on GoG. I won't buy it but it will bring back at least a small amount of trust and respect.
avatar
toxicTom: They can't and it has been explained several times why they can't. But, ok, another time.

Nobody denies that announcing the game, and retreating a few hours later blaming "gamers" of all people. That was... incompetent beyond any measure.

Devotion is a (muleta) red cloth to the Chinese, even if the content in question is now removed, the fact stands that the devs "insulted" their "great leader". It may be laughable, but that's simply how authoritarian regimes are - they have no humour, they love to make examples, and we can't change that.

Now GOG/CD Projekt are operating in a grey area in China - officially they are not there, and don't have a license (which could be revoked anyway, see the original publisher of the game). But they also are not blocked by the Great Firewall.
That means, currently GOG is making good money in China, and from what I hear, CP77 sells well there too.

That means they can't afford any negative attention from Chinese authorities at all, and can't even openly admit that - because officially they are not doing business there.

And: CD Projekt is a publicly traded company, which means they are first and foremost responsible to their shareholders. The botched CP77 release already made those irritable, releasing Devotion and getting banned over that from huge and lucrative the Chinese market probably lead to a class action lawsuit against the CEOs of GOG and CD Projekt for harming their own business out of spite.

The only chance I see for Devotion is to find a home on some smaller time store independent from business interests in China. I hope that can happen, because it seems to be a good game, even if the devs pretty recklessly destroyed their own publisher over a silly joke.

It's hilarious how all those couch freedom warriors here whine about "GOG being in bed with evil communists" when it's good old capitalist greed that dictates business decisions, and that has never cared for human rights (see our Saudi best friends when we want oil, or sweatshops and slave labour all over the third world for cheap clothes and resources) or freedom other than the freedom of making money for a upper few percent.

Expecting a smallish Polish company to make a stand against the fickle rulers of China AND their own owners over one single game is delusional, to put it mildly.

If people want to complain about outdated offline installers, DRM-like features in Galaxy, the Epic partnership (also with China in the back...), way too little manpower when the customer base has exploded, the broken website, and finally abysmal incompetence when it comes to communicating with their user base and in general intransparency - I'm all with you. But in the case of Devotion their hands are tied, and probably very tightly, and apart from the initial fuck-up with the announcement and retreat from that I can not see how GOG can be blamed. If you want to blame anybody, blame "the system". Or Xinnie, but I doubt any of those care.
I agree. Sadly, it is what it is. They shouldn't have announced it in the first place as to not set people's expectations. I believe there are people that are genuinely excited for the game. I for one only found about it recently and I think it's a cool game. This is a really bad time for CDPR and GoG.

That's total bull crap. I have no idea why the terrible post from which I pulled that quotation is "highly rated," but it definitely shouldn't be.

Contrary to popular belief among GOG apologists, the CCP is not GOG's slavemaster!

Yet advocates of the position I've just quoted are asserting that what I just said is wrong, and that in fact yes indeed the CCP is GOG's slavemaster, and GOG must submit to being their slave, and GOG has no choice in the matter.

That type of attitude of is extremely appalling, and it's also false.

CCP has zero power over GOG - none, nada, zilch, absolutely nothing - other than the power that GOG artitifically gives away to it for no reason, other than sheer cowardice.

And even if the CCP did have the power to punish or hurt GOG for not banning games to appease them, that still wouldn't be a good reason for GOG to submit to becoming their slave anyway!

I can't believe I'm even having to post such common sense basic knowledge.

Do GOG apologists go through life giving bullies everything they want, just because they are big and tough? Do you live your lives as slaves just because others are in the world who have the power to hurt you if you don't submit to their demands? If so, I feel very sorry for you, and you should stop doing that immediately.

And if not, then why do you expect that GOG must submit to being a slave even though you yourselves would not?
