I have been listening to Sinéad O'Connor 1987 debut album The Lion and the Cobra. It offers some interesting variety of styles, sometimes well radicated in the new wave trends, sometimes anticipating the 90s a bit. There's space for pop rock love songs and some Jeseus & Mary Chain vibes. The for the time cutting edge production resonates with Peter Gabriel, flirts with catchy tunes, and vibes with a good wave funk moment like Jerusalem, that I choose as a track to link here. I'd like to add that one can hear where the Cranberries have taken so many ideas from.

I'm also listening back to Godflesh albums and I amazed everytime at how ahead of their time they were with their mix of industrial, metal, dub and hip hop. Check Songs of Love and Hate in Dub 1997.

Nice...a bit of advice on links, though: Don't use & symbols in links as they don't show up right....if you want it to not appear weird you might want to use the word and or the plus sign. :)

Nice, but I like this slightly better: It paints a picture of man's basic(good or bad) motivations and the cycle of life/death/new life.
(It's also pretty damn good)

Peter Gabriel is truly a god among men and the gift that keeps on giving.

The television screen has become the retina of the mind's eye.
80's pop dance rock was stuck in my head lately so I was listening to some ZZ Top with a side of Blondie. :)
I always wished they had taken the Fandango!(half live, half studio) approach to that 80's sound with the other half of the album being more akin to the original sound.
It seemed as if inventive masterpieces like "Manic Mechanic" flowed from that space easier.
Regardless, it's nice to have those original mixes again on the classic albums.
Speaking of Texas, why is it that you always find a Texas "Energy" guy when you look under rocks in the darkest corners of American history for the past 7 decades? It's pretty much cliche at this point.
