So, yeah, got me a job starting tomorrow, so the wife gave the green light to build a new rig. Just ordered all the parts. Can't wait for next weekend when I might actually have time to do the build. Yeah, baby!
Don't forget to post the stats so we can all suggest what would have been far better and ridicule the choices made :P

Err... I meant so we can congratulate :D
Congrats, what's the build?
Ah, yes, the build. Heh, here it is:

Case: Fractal Design Define R5
Mobo: Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 6
CPU: Core I5-6600K
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1070 (8GB)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) x2
PSU: EVGA Supernova 750 P2 80 Plus Platinum Certified 750W (modular)
SSD: Intel 540S Series 240GB
CPU Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO
Windows 10 64 bit

I have a monitor, KB, Mouse already, and also have a couple large capacity HDDs that I'm going to drop in as well.

Should be a decent gaming rig.

Thankfully I'm so utterly clueless when it comes to computers that I can't even be jelous - none of that means anything to me :D

But I assume it means you will be able to run all sorts of cool games, and that's always a good thing. Congratulations on getting a new job and putting the new PC together :)
I'm jealous, still using my GTX 780 and 4770K.

Although it plays and does everything I need, there's nothing like building and playing with shiny new stuff.

You're probably better off that way. :)

Thanks. It's been 7 years since my last build, so I'm looking forward to this new one being able to easily handle some of the newer games I've got sitting in the backlog (Witcher 3, especially). Oh, and the video card comes with a free code for Gears of War 4. Not something I'd have probably looked at but, for free? It might be fun.

I would like to visit your country and build computers with you.

I have my own thermal paste.

Yeah, my current rig is a core i7 920 and a GTX 560 Ti. I'm pretty stoked about getting a new one together.

Why do you Canadians ask for permission from your wives ?

Can't you do things the way you want ?

Why be such a wimp ?

The good thing is that you live in Canada, so you don't really need any cooling or heat sinks.

I didn't 'ask permission'. I said I wanted to build a new rig, which is not an insignificant investment. I don't know how marriages work in other parts of the world, but mine's a partnership. Neither one of us spends a significant amount of money without discussing it with the other. When I suggested that this was what I wanted for Christmas, she said go ahead and get it now if I want, but I won't be getting much else for Christmas. I said, "Yeah, that works for me".

LOL - yep, I'm planning on building a server farm in the spare igloo. :P
