Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak has a Mac version on steam, but only Windows version here...

A bit sad.

Zimerius: does deserts of kharak include a tactical pause?? I'm pretty sure i could not pause the damn game, else i would not had have all that trouble to point the right unit at the the right target, great game btw!
I checked this out- a tactical pause was released in the v1.3 patch.

However, it seems as though there is still no facility to re-map the controls so a definite no buy from me.

Good Lord!! you are right, i will install right away !!

i'm fine with using the mouse and work with addictive pausing ;)

Now if HW2 receives an tac pause ( or did THAT game receive one to? ( ( rhetorical yes i can use google to ))) then i can play the entire trilogy at my own leisure!
well, did not expect this, but yea, this certainly qualifies as " tactical pause " though calling it a strategic game might still be a overstretched the tactical pause parameter is certainly checked, in this case

As you already have the game, maybe you could answer a question for me and likely others?

Is the game controllable mostly with the mouse as with other Homeworld titles?

What I mean is- is there a major requirement to use the WASD etc keyboard controls for movement etc?

I am old school and like to remap WASD to the arrow keys. I am far too old and lazy to learn WASD now.

If there is no major need to use WASD then I might pick this game up.

No, this game is indeed perfectly controlleable with the mouse, including edge scrolling with your mouse

Funny you should say this, there seems to be a revival ongoing for using the mouse and keyboard to control your games. Solaster is one of the latest games that includes this where your only option is either using the mid mouse button to press and scroll while not offering edge scrolling anywhere. Of course this option is perfectly suited for slow games such as CiV VI, games that don't include twisting and turning of the camera but in games such as Total War or other fast paced games ( of course in total war edge scrolling is either found in the options or enabled by default, at least still for now )
Also, it seems to be a definite sign of multiplayer ignorance developer type so be warned ;)

Thanks Zimerius, I will pick this game up afterall.

Just so you know, both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 have pause options, not sure about cataclysm though (emergence as is called on gog)
What game is the news post image from?

eiii: What game is the news post image from?
It looks like it could be one of the Men of War games. Perhaps Men of War Assault Squad, though it looks more like a drawn picture..

I think it is from one of the Sudden Strike games. Maybe 4 or one of it's DLCs?

It can be one of the media images for Blitzkrieg 2 or any of their expansions. Looks like an interpretation, not real ingame screen.

At least the style would match.

To me it looks like the contrast in the Sudden Strike games is lower than on the sale image. And the viewing angle also does not match.

For Blitzkrieg 2 the viewing angle also does not match. But maybe it's indeed an interpretation (a good one, at least for me) and not actually from a game.
Yes, maybe you are right. I don't know, but it sure looks good. :)
