Why in the nine realms there even exists an Ancestors Legacy - Complete Edition that costs more than the sum of its parts?

It is basically made of AL - Special Edition plus Saladin's Conquest, plus extra price.

Unless it was the case that a smaller regional price modifier was applied to that edition than the other parts, but I doubt it. They usually apply them on a publisher's basis. If the pub agreed that a certain region needs a certain discount it would only make sense the same discount would apply to their entire catalogue.

For someone who has vivid memories of the green trapezoid box of Soul Reaver sitting upon shelves in stores everywhere but who has never played any games in the series, how important is it to play the original Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain first? It's always bothered me that the first game is the only one not available digitally and I don't like jumping in after a starting point. That said, this series really interests me and I feel it's time to finally play it.

Funnily enough, I did start the first game around 10 years ago and within the first 30 minutes my hard drive failed and motherboard crashed. I ended up selling the game as I had no computer to play it. Ah the memories...

Heads up: When Mafia III was released on Steam, it was extremely buggy. They fixed the bugs and then released it on GOG. Now they've "remastered" the game, which has made it extremely buggy again. They didn't even leave the fixed version in people's accounts. Instead, they forced an update on everyone that ruined the game. Right now, the only way to play a stable version of that game is to play the GOG version, which it looks like has never been updated because it's never needed to be updated. I don't know if the current GOG release will be replaced with the "remastered" version in the future, but if you plan to play it, it's worth picking it up while it's on sale and archiving the offline installer, just in case, even if you already own it on Steam.

Soul Reaver starts an entirely different story that focuses on Raziel. Blood Omen will give you backstory on Kain and is worth playing, but I'd say you're okay to go in without it (assuming you don't want to download and patch a copy of it, that is).

(Also I guess I should mention - I did it this way years ago when I first played Soul Reaver on the Playstation and, later, Dreamcast - I hadn't played Blood Omen at all and still found Soul Reaver accessible from the narrative standpoint).

What about Mafia remasters for us?

Hey there, do you know if the GOG versions of Kain/Reaver series are playable with XInput gamepads? I always wanted to play them but nowadays I can't play such games without a gamepad :)
