It's PDXCON time again and for three days Paradox fans will be converging to Berlin, Germany to celebrate the epic games in the publisher's expansive catalog! Even if you're not attending, doesn't mean you can't participate in the fun: our Paradox Sale is now on, with a wide array of modern classics going for up to 80% off. So get ready to micromanage, macromanage, lead, build, conquer and watch all of your hard work result in glory or crumble to dust in spectacular fashion.

Pillars of Eternity (up to 50%) and Tyranny (-50%) are two prime examples of why the isometric, party-based RPGs of yore needed to come back and stay. Age of Wonders series (up to 80%), Imperator: Rome (-33%), Majesty (-75%), and Hearts of Iron (up to 75%) will more than scratch your tactical itch while sucking you in their respective worlds.

Are you more in a mood to get lost in space over this weekend? Then, check out the superb Stellaris series (up to -75%) or Surviving Mars (up to -66%). Finally, BATTLETECH (up to -66%) will give you the shot of intergalactic war you’ve been asking for.

The Paradox Sale ends on October 21st, 1PM UTC.

mqstout: Oh, and their crap that removed LAN play from the Age of Wonders series to Internet-only ("LAN" play in AOW3 is DRMed behind the Internet account!)
That was Triumph all on their own, a good while before Paradox bought them out.

vsr: Is that true that Prison Architect is no longer DRM-Free after Paradox acquired rights for this game?
Reviews say that you have to use Paradox Launcher, you have to be always online.
avatar
mqstout: Just tested...
Installed via Galaxy 1. Disconnected network. On clicking "play" it installed launcher and started it. But it worked (and started game). Exited. Went to folder and started the PrisonArchitect64.exe directly and it skipped launcher and went straight into game.

So, yeah -- another strike on Paradox (and GOG!) for pushing that launcher out and making it the default. But it's still not DRM. Just bad form. [Sorry, didn't have time also to download offline installer and try that.]
Ok, thanks.
If this launcher doesn't force user to register on publisher's server and take permission every time (or even just for the first time) to launch the game, then that's bearable.

Because, you know, i am the man, who wants to launch his games in 2045 (or something) year.
Who can guarantee me that publisher's server still will be there, waiting for my game's copy to ping in?

you don't have to be online BUT something they did has totally screwed up the FPS. I researched it and it has nothing to do with specs; pretty much anything you run it on is going to be slow and choppy

Mr.Mumbles: That was Triumph all on their own, a good while before Paradox bought them out.
But have they fixed it since the purchase? No. Did Scifi of Wonders come out locked up? Seems so. Does the typical Paradox game work that way? Yep.

Thanks for the precaution.
There are lots of negative reviews on Steam in September 2019.

Some of them mention Paradox's EULA excerpts, which allow them to collect some information from your PC.
Maybe theirs *spyware* causes this...
Cities Skylines for folks pls

Every time Stellaris or Surviving Mars is on sale, I want to get them (or one of them).
But then I look at all those versions and DLCs and I have absolutely no clue what I need to get, if I want the full experience. And then I close the browser...

It's just a complete mess and even if you find out, what you actually want(!) to buy, a new DLC is released it the sorting out starts all over, because you cant mark the other versions/dlcs as "already owned".
I mean, we could view this as a (browser)game as well, but it's just not fun.

So every Stellaris base game version (normal and galaxy) and all DLCs are on sale, but you still have to pay full price for "Stellaris: Ancient Relics Story Pack" - the one dlc I was really looking for in this sale :-(... You could have offered it at least at 33 % off like the MegaCorp dlc...

Well, obviously it is still too new and we have to wait until the next (Halloween, X-Mas, Spring or whatever) sale... sadly shakes head and walks away...
So Paradox gives away Crusader Kings 2 free on steam in time for PDXcon but still have not released it here, that's fucking dumb even if the amount of DLC's is hard to swallow for that game.
So Crusader Kings III has been announced.
That's why CK2 has gone "free to play".
So I believe that CK2 now can be here on gog.

It's very nice to PDX - I think that it's the publisher which had the higher number of sales here on gog during the past two months, maybe almost always something from their catalog in a week/mid-week/week end sale.
But I suspect that the future release of CK2 follows a certain pattern observed for a few years, if you compare with free gifts and $1 sales on humble for a good number of games preceding their release here on gog, at full price or with a low discounty obviously.

I know that if considered a whole with all DLCs, the CK2 base game's price is relatively negligeable, so going "free to play" isn't that much, and even it's only used to promote the future release of CK3 (obviously not here then), I am a bit tired of the sentiment that the "steam value" of a game has to be next to nothing for us goger to hope seeing it here.

So instead of warmed, I am being cautious, especially since I don't want another excuse from anyone not to relase CK2's Linux version.
So any word if CK2 - and since the base game is free - it's DLCs will get here?

What about Surviving the Aftermath... out now EPIC early access... any word if it's coming here... or have paradox gone full *bleep*s like so many other "triple A" pubs/devs??

Will we be getting the announced Prison Architect DLC?

Not really happy at these announcements... life my spirits Paradox!

It's unlikely that CK2/ HOI4/ EUIV will get here as their extensive steamworks integration would need to be unpicked and that would take time and money. That's not impossible though of course, but even if they did get here it would likely be with no MP. For the rest who knows, probably depends on how well their new titles have sold here and whether their sales strategy remains consistent with GOG's policies.

CK2 actually had a DRM free version initially which was sold on Gamersgate, but that version has been dead since a year after release.
No more money to Paradox.
Sorry, they are a disgrace.

The only paradox games I got, in the last year, is trough Humble Bundle, and I can't even bother to play them, as they:

1 Feel all the same
2.You have to districate yourself trough an endless number of DLCs to make the base game worth, that I don't care much about.
