lolinc: Yes, thank you for that clarification; sometimes I forget that 'abandonware' today has a different legal status respective of consensus, contrasted with, say, 20-25 years ago.
I agree that it was a great game. . . had great ambient sound and fantastic ambient music (I'm not really a fan of blaring symphonies in many games today), and I thought the glyph-magic-system had a cool magick-y feel to it (like Black and White). . . and, like UU:SA, had a underground community comprised of diverse factions. Artistically, the game was a class-act presentation. I need to look up Arkane's catalogue and check out their other games!
Cadaver747: I meant that it was literally impossible to play Arx Libertatis without original game data files, making GOG purchase a good thing all around. Original game was playable on my system, but it was not stable.
I also very much liked the magic system, the game has some similarities with original Thief game as well and I love it.
Arkane's second game Dark Messiah of Might & Magic (Steam only) is also a good one, especially if you're playing thief-mage combo. I highly recommend it.
But their next after that, Dishonored game, was a big disappointment for me. I don't get the high praise from gaming community. Haven't touched other games in series.
Prey was insanely good, too bad it has some serious technical flaws and the only story DLC lacking the base game quality.
Ahhhh, okay. . . m'bad man. See, for some reason, I had thought all this time that Libertatis was a complete emulation. . . source, engine, and all. I also thought that was a late '90s title, but it wasn't, which means it was probably XP oriented, so probably wouln't need emulation.
Yah, I still got Dishonored bouncing around in a desk drawer somewhere; I remember that I enjoyed it, but it wasn't real high on my praise-list. . . seemed like it was kind of short or something. . . don't remember.
Thank you for the recommendation re. 'Dark Messiah'! I'll definitely check it out. . . sounds like something I'd really like!
