Help us break the GOG Galaxy servers!

Our venture into GOG Galaxy started not too long ago, so far our infrastructure supports online multiplayer for Aliens vs Predator Classic 2000, Double Dragon Trilogy and of course The Witcher Adventure Game. It's been pretty smooth sailing, but there is still so much ahead of us. We want to learn everything we can about our infrastructure under a lot of stress, how much we can handle before weird stuff starts to happen. That means plenty of people doing all kinds of things at once - rolling dice, beating up baddies, killing aliens.

We're going to be hanging out in-game, and we'd like you to join us in trying to break our servers.

-We want to throw everything we can at our infrastructure. We'd like you to help us break it on Thursday, February 12 starting at 4:00 PM GMT. No worries if you're late, we'll be at it for a while. You can check your local time right here!

-Simply launch your GOG.com copy of Aliens vs Predator Classic 2000, Double Dragon Trilogy, The Witcher Adventure Game, join an existing multiplayer game or create your own, and have a good time! We'll be there too.

Once you've had a chance to play, let us know how your online experience went, and what we can do to improve it (keep in mind we're not testing the games themselves, but the online infrastructure). You can vent, praise, and anything in between, right here in this forum thread. We'll be watching!

Thank you!

How late do you want this to go on?
I wont be able to play until 19:30 or so tomorrow.

Kinghoza: Would make much more sense if you guys actually provided a temporary key for those games.
Agree with this, if they want a stress test, the more players the better. the only prob is that the game well avp can be played single player. so GOG would have to give the game away.

Why can't they just add it for 24 hours to accounts that have GOG Galaxy and then take it away? Or give it to everyone for 24 hours.

Because said accounts could then back it up.

So? Anyone can download a GOG torrent off the internet and have the exact same backup I do. You pay to have the game on your GOG library tied to your account.

Indeed, but GOG is not a pirate site, you know. It would be better if they just gave a new bunch of codes. Less hassle and no possibility of screwing up with users' accounts.

Oh ok, didn't think about it that way. Should have at least put these multiplayer games on sale before these tests, I wouldn't mind testing servers if there was a heavy discount but paying full price... not really.
Is this still a thing? I could play for a little while now. Maybe. But all I've got is AvP.

Edit; Forget it, I didn't read properly. Because I'm an idiot and all that.

Well Gog, if you gift me the witcher adventure game, I will show up tomorrow morning.

So the logic here is that, to bribe people to participate in their multiplayer server stress test, GOG and the publishers (make no mistake, GOG can't give away shit without a publisher's say-so) should just throw out more freebies, because people can pirate these games anyway, so they might as well just give them away. Is that the basic idea?

EDIT: Nevermind, it seems smug ninjacat Grargar already got zeo to see the light. :)

To be fair, they pretty much own the Witcher Adventure game :)
l will be sleeping then, instead will make a Alien vs Predator match and leave it running all night.

RED is the publisher, yeah, but it's still a bit new for them to want to give it away, I'm guessing, and it's sort of a niche kind of game to begin with, so they'd probably rather get all the sales they can while it's still a fairly recent title. I wouldn't be surprised to see it given away here within the next couple years, though.
As for AVP, the pub already gave it away once in the last half-year, so I'm guessing that's it for that one, at least for a long time.

It just bugs me how people are asking for "temporary keys" for DRM-free titles. As Grargar pointed out, one could back up such a game and keep it indefinitely; and if GOG did release DRMed versions of these titles (for the purpose of this test) that would uninstall themselves after the test period was over, then -- even if these were free -- there would be a lot of GOG fanatics who would leave and never come back, just based on that. It would be a lose-lose scenario.
