Help us break the GOG Galaxy servers!

Our venture into GOG Galaxy started not too long ago, so far our infrastructure supports online multiplayer for <span class="bold">Aliens vs Predator Classic 2000</span>, <span class="bold">Double Dragon Trilogy</span> and of course <span class="bold">The Witcher Adventure Game</span>. It's been pretty smooth sailing, but there is still so much ahead of us. We want to learn everything we can about our infrastructure under a lot of stress, how much we can handle before weird stuff starts to happen. That means plenty of people doing all kinds of things at once - rolling dice, beating up baddies, killing aliens.

We're going to be hanging out in-game, and we'd like you to join us in trying to break our servers.

-We want to throw everything we can at our infrastructure. We'd like you to help us break it on Thursday, February 12 starting at 4:00 PM GMT. No worries if you're late, we'll be at it for a while. You can check your local time right here!

-Simply launch your GOG.com copy of Aliens vs Predator Classic 2000, Double Dragon Trilogy, The Witcher Adventure Game, join an existing multiplayer game or create your own, and have a good time! We'll be there too.

Once you've had a chance to play, let us know how your online experience went, and what we can do to improve it (keep in mind we're not testing the games themselves, but the online infrastructure). You can vent, praise, and anything in between, right here in this forum thread. We'll be watching!

Thank you!

I hope people will still be around in about 3 hours. Didn't get to participate as I had hoped. :(

Liahim: Played The Witcher Adventure Game for 1.30h, 2 ppl, 3 quests for win, everything is OK, no dc.
I played with this guy! He beat me. D:
Played AVP deathmatch for an hour or so, everything pretty smooth despite not being in North America.
I played AVP for a bit. There was some nasty lag on the AI enemies, which did not happen last time I played (when the game was given away to test Galaxy).
Sorry GOG. I played AVP 2000 around 1:00 PM GMT for about 15 minutes before I couldn't take any more. That's just a bad multiplayer game. I didn't notice much lag, though. I would've tested the other two games, but I don't own them.

If you had asked me to play Unreal Tournament 2004 to test GOG Galaxy, I could've played for hours. Maybe next time. :)

ricki42: I'd love to join, but no Linux version. :(
Is a Linux version planned for the future, or is this Windows-only? Does the Mac version of the Witcher Adventure game currently include Galaxy?
avatar
sunshinecorp: Uh, sure. Give me a linux client and I'll help. ;)

jdarnold: yup, same here!

Maighstir: Similar to others before me, I would love to help run your infrastructure into the ground, but seeing how I'm running Linux, my OS isn't yet supported by the client.

DracoMagister: Me too.

josekiller: Yeah. Me too!

MellowTigger: At the moment, I don't have a Windows (or Mac) operating system available. Will Galaxy be coming to a game on Linux soon?
Same here.

Does the Galaxy client require any particular setting changes on my router?

I'm just asking, since I can see and join Aliens versus Predator multiplayer games, and even play for a few minutes, but always end up being disconnected. Obviously it has something to do with my setup, since just about everyone else on here seems fine!

I've used various games consoles in the past, and they've never had any trouble connecting, so apart from certain router settings (since my general connection seems fine) I'm not sure what's going on at the moment! :-)

EDIT: Disconnected from the game session that is -- not from the Internet!

Did you launch the game shortcut "Alien versus Predator Classic" or the one that has "- Galaxy Client" on it? (Usually found next to the original shortcut in the Start menu)

I played AvP and it went relatively smooth. Did encounter random disconnects though.

Linux client please.
OK, I've been on AvP for about an hour, and all went well, if it weren't for some minor lag issues on my end. I think I did my part, that game is terrible, I mostly just died but kept coming back so I could help you guys. Under any other circumstances I would have never endured this. The amount of team-killing is absurd, I think most of the people playing this game right now don't have a clue about what they're supposed to be doing -- myself included. But, hey!, I kind of helped test the server stress. Plus, the game surely tests my stress and patience, so, it works both ways!

I might go back a bit later but, right now, I need a break, a smoke, and some Geordy playing HoMM III on GOG's twitch channel.
Played some more AvP, this time making sure nothing else was hogging the bandwidth.
No disconnects but "everyone" had a 8-900 ms ping, which I guess means that it's on my end.

I'm not a fan of FPS's, single or multi player, so I think I'll call it a day (and play something turn based). It was fun, though, even if I didn't know what I was doing 99% of the time =P
Hello,
I'm late to the party and just tried to open some multiplayer AvP but I get "Failed to authorize[0]" everytime I try to ented multiplayer menu.

skinandbones13: I still think DRM is about copyright restrictions on games; you have to be logged in to a third party client to be able to play the game or the game files being accessed through the cloud. Where as Galaxy seems to be an optional third party client that enables multiplayer function on some games.
avatar
Pheace: I find there to be little difference. Instead of having to be logged into a third party client to be able to play the game you have to be logged into a third party client to play a *part* of the game. It may not affect you as much as the other but it's no less of a DRM only because it doesn't affect the entire game but only a part of it.
Haha no I still do not see it that way. DRM was created to prevent piracy or to limit the use of a digital item, MP was developed as an added function as developers thought this would add value to their game. If GOG wasn't developing Galaxy those parts of the game would still be locked off to people. See, that part of the argument doesn't make sense to me.

However, I know they arent 100% sepereated from each other but I just see a bigger difference than the the argument that it is DRM.

Played some AvP for last hour and worked just fine without any lag or disconnects whatsoever.
