It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

I have been using an Internet ad blocker for probably 9 or 10 years now. For the last few weeks I have been using my old computer with Windows XP where I couldn't install an ad blocker, because the Firefox version for XP is out-dated.

I was completely overwhelmed and shocked with the current state on YouTube:
- first there is and ad at top-right of the screen
- then you often get a one minute ad before the video even starts
- then during the video you often get an ad banner
- but that is not enough, often the video just stops to display and ad, just like on TV
- then after it finishes there is another ad

That is like 5 ads for a 10 minute video. It didn't use to be like this ten years ago and it is as bad as watching TV now. I started to use and ad blocker as a response, because the ads were getting out of control back then, but it just got worse.

Doesn't 'UBlock Origins' (plug-in/extension) not work with the old version of Firefox ?.
I can't stand ads. If you want ads, they have to be banner ads to the side where it isn't interfering with content at all (like such a large ad that it takes over the screen or worse, affects tablets)

Forcing timed watched ads, which usually don't honor your quality requests and push them FULL HD and you have limited data on your device, it's terrible.

Using a Roku occasionally, If an ad pops when trying to start a video i'll kill and restart it... after 3 attempts, nope i'm done.
yeah, use UBlock Origins. works perfectly well!

I'm one of the less sympathetic types. If you're using Windows XP in this day and age, that's entirely a YOU problem.

I dunno if you're one of the many who've been told logical and sensible solutions; (Buy an off lease computer from an office, Linux, work for CroTeam) but you've got absolutely no reason to be using Windows XP at this point, especially for a network computer.
i reccomend adguard as u can edit the website (locally ofc) to remove wid gets and ads that annoy you which some blockers dnt remove, also tv in the UK we have to pay £150 per year for a lisence, i dnt do this as i do not own a tv at all, only a pc monitor which has no tv functionalitys.

youtube has gone downhill over the years not just with ads but with the following

1. more crap content than ever
2. toxic comments
3. agenda based videos being reccomended due to SJW losers running youtube

tbh google is just driving youtube into the ground tbh this is a great time for a company like amazon to make a video sharing site like youtube, like amaztube.com and maybe users can earn bits for twitch watching videos or get special themed emotes etc etc,
Has the OP watched TV lately!? XD

Sports are ridiculous, sitcoms almost as bad, but SyFy channel is the worst. I takes them two hours to show a 45 minute movie.

I swear if I have to listen to that PCMatic guy one more time I'm gonna blow my brains out.
"I've shoehorned my stupid kids into this stupid commercial just to prove to you how much you need PC Matic; the only PM Virus protection made entirely in the United States, because, as you know, virus protection programs made in Canada, Belgium, or Madagascar suck ass!"

I guess you missed the point, the reason OP is without add-block doesnt matter too much (in my prespective).
I am most of my internet time on a metered connection (not by choice) and if I browse stuff without any addons, the amount of data "wasted" is enourmous. Those freaking sneaky auto play, high resolution videos can take hundreds of Megs in a dozen seconds.
This has been debated to death, wether add-blocker do more harm than good, but the truth is "internet" is very bloated these days. Youtube seem to be tolerable on some videos, not so much in others.

How do you even manage to function during the day ? You have the thread title, a wall of text talking about ads on Youtube and only in one sentence do I mention a temporary use of XP to describe how I came to the current realization, just for you to make that a problem and then proceed to talk down on me. I can be using Windows 11, it wont change the current state of advertising on YouTube, which is the point of this thread.

But since you are so passionate about it; I used XP to play an old game that doesn't work properly on new versions of Windows. Also for the record, I know there is no Windows 11.

I appreciate others for trying to help, but it is not needed.

wait. youtube has ads?

I generally try to keep the ads running because I want most YouTubers who I watch to get ad revenue, but...

... this last week I've seen a HUGE up-tick in ads and...

... I've been running ad-block. Not proud of blocking ads, but yes, YouTube is starting to feel unwatchable without ad blockers.

Have you ever considered trying to install a Linux distro on that old ass computer? Something using LXDE or XFCE as the desktop environment might help you out to get more modern versions of Firefox or Chromium.

As for in-video ads, that seems to be dependant on the channel. Some channels put more ads in their videos than others.

Are there still people who don’t use ad blockers and script blockers? I haven’t seen an ad on YouTube for years.

I'd love to use one on my PowerMac G4, but I'm not sure there is an ad blocker that works for Mac OS 9 and Classilla (short of setting up a DNS-based one on another machine, which I very well could do but can't be arsed to). Then again, the scripts that show the ads don't work either, so I guess it evens out nicely.
