Darvond: and now he's pulling the game because he sees interest had waned on GOG.
Maybe interest waned because the game never received any updates on GOG? I would have bought it already, if the dev actually supported the game on GOG and released the same updates here that the Steam version has had for ages...

aJillSandwich: But I still don't understand why the game is still on Steam and Humble Store, but not GOG...?
Seems like he's shifted the publishing rights to the game over to his own company.

Pony island has received 4 updates on the following dates:

March 7th 2016
April 1st 2016
May 16 2016
June 29th 2016

Ok, so it did receive most updates that Steam has (some of them took a bit longer), but not the last two updates released in September.

By the way, if GOG would let users access changelogs for games they don't own, that confusion would have been easy to avoid. I still don't understand the reason for not posting changelogs publicly.

Too much effort.
They used to, whenever you mention it they refer to the fact that you can see it in your library if you've bought it.

Changelogs are avaiable on Magog I think?

They used to post them on a specific game's forum. I wouldn't call that publicly.

No, they used to be posted in the What did just update thread by Judas right?
Or wasn't that everything?

Also, it's more public than what they're currently doing. :P

Not always. Besides, that thread was created by a user, so I wouldn't count it as an official effort.

It might be more visible, but it's still no good to those who don't visit the forum. I'd rather they do something similar to Steam, instead of going back to the old method.

Well yeah, that's what I've wanted from the start. :P
Doesn't interest in most games wane in the months after release, perhaps unless there are attractive sale discounts for wishlisters? (If anything GOG is where you're most likely to find people who remember and play games years afterwards.) I assume this is implicitly in comparison with other retailers... Edit: or saying it's not worth signing new paperwork.

Had this game on my wishlist, but because of my big backlot of possible purchases I had to push it forward to get the older ones first.

Quite angry about the silent deletion, there is no real reason for not bringing it back now 1:1 as self-publisher.

The GOG-Release is already circulating in the warez-scene, everyone who dispises DRM/steam should have an alternative to BUY it, especially when a stable release WAS here before...

That's more GOG's fault than it is Mullins or even his previous publisher's. Even then I'm hesitant to be really upset about it - when something happens as sudden as this seems to have, it's hard for any respectable digital distributor to give a heads up about it.

Something to point out to Mullins. Based on Darvond's post, it seems like him wanting the game removed from GOG was motivated by the lack of income not just because of the original publisher's bankruptcy and closure but from the (presumably) small percentage of sales made of the game through GOG. The latter is indicative of a view a lot of indie developers seem to share when it comes to the revenue stream they see from the likes of Steam vs. GOG. That he's made enough money to the point where he's working on a new game is nice, but were I in his place, I don't think I'd be quite as quick to dismiss another source of income.

If you're comfortable with using userscripts, install Adalia Fundamentals. Among many great features, it places a link to the changelog on the game page, and it works pretty well.

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a try when I have some more spare time. It sounds really useful.

You're welcome. And while you're at it, you may want to give Barefoot Essentials a go too, if you're not using it already.
