blakekl: What about a requirement that a register user has actually purchased something before being allowed to post in the forums?
Rejected by GOG staff, for very good reasons. Imagine you have a question about GOG (lots of people still don't know that GOG exists) or compatibility of one of the older games and you get a "Buy games or GTFO!" message when you try to post... Not good.

Wishbone: Yes it is. It's an extremely bad idea. It would be alienating potential customers, which is a very poor strategy for any business.
I don't expect them to take that route honestly... Besides you probably wouldn't get too much support for free games.

Perhaps the requirement could only be for making new threads... Afterall there's plenty of applicable threads already, and it wouldn't prevent you from messaging anyone (unless they disallowed PM's).

But this is kinda moot.

I agree that new customers shouldn't be forced to buy anything. But maybe newly created accounts should be limited to how many posts they can make per hour. Or prevent new accounts from posting any kind of URL, or parts of a URL, until their rep reaches a certain point.
