Hey, so I long wanted to make a Warcraft 2 wallpaper for my desktop and today finally went through the trouble of finding my CD, finding an external drive, and getting the map editor to run.

In case someone loves that game as much as I do, here's the wallpaper itself. Enjoy!

Not into Warcraft, but the map is too crowded.
Looks pretty good to me, well done. And no, it's not overcrowded.
Nice idea for a wallpaper, thanks for sharing.
Well, it's nice : )
But no Orks invaders? Blashphemy!

Looks nice, kinda makes me want to play WCII again...

... but those farmer just hanging around won't do—get back to work you lazy sods! The gold isn't gonna mine itself, and there is lumber to be milled!

AOE nailed it with the 'Idle Villager' button.

That should have become a law to have in all RTS games.

Preach!

But there were several less than ideal things about WCII if memory serves, such as the nine unit max size that could be selected at once. I guess most of it comes down to the age of the game. I've long wanted Blizzard to make a new Warcraft RTS.

Can't have Orks in Warcraft. They are from Warhammer. =)

Also: FOR THE ALLIANCE!!!
God, I had forgotten how great the art in this game is.

Thanks for the memory. :)

Never really cared about the nine unit limit, I evened it out using numbered groups. My main problem were the almost perfectly symmetrical factions. I'll never quite understand why they (and most other RTS developers, for that matter) did that, especially despite already going the extra mile of drawing unique unit sprites for each faction.

That was how RTS games were at that point. I think Starcraft became the first truly asymmetrical game, and that is one of the reasons for its immense popularity. Before that, the differences between factions were always either cosmetic or otherwise very minor (Dune 2, Warcraft 1 & 2, etc.)

GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod would beg to differ.
