I'd love to get the X series here... :)

I don't know why i love some space games when i'm not very good at them yet... maybe i need some good ones to play.
I remember trying X3 Terran Conflict and there was some issue where the my ship would crash during auto-pilot when it was landing on a station. I googled it and some said it was a bug, others that it was actually not a bug. Either way, I didn't manage to get it to go away. I tried 2 mod overhauls but they still had the issue, I believe one of them had a lot of crashes because of increased system requirements as well.

They seem enjoyable when you get used to them but complicated games combined with technical issues is not a good mix in my experience.
The X series, except X: Rebirth is also DRM free from the developers. So, yeah...Why is not on GOG, it's beyond me.

I don't think they sell them anymore in their store. Even on GamersGate, the games are now Steam keys.

crashing is still a player mistake ;)

approaching with too high velocity bound to fail. Coming from the wrong angel, dito. It is similar with the good old Elite and the docking-computer....I'll never forget the first time, I finally got the money to buy this device (don't forget, before you had to MANUALLY land) switched it on the computer was engaging the landing sequence and just before entering the station another ship departed, crashed right into me and I was getting blamed!!!
Trying to dock with SETA at 600% / 1000%

Not clearing jumpgates and getting reamed by a ship coming through...

Fun times :)

Remember that the auto pilot is a high as a kite gerbil with a hastely drawn map.

It's called auto-pilot for a reason. Unless it's an enemy ship or a black hole, I don't think it should be crashing.

I spent quite a few hours in there (mainly X3 Reunion), something like 100+, and I never had those problems. The AP reacting strange yes. moving up and down and similar yes, but it was than me making the mistake of a bad landing vector, like trying to land from the opposite direction ;)

I can't remember the name or setting, but you can also instant dock....So no landing sequence....Yes plain vanilla and the official package, so not modified.

As Bigs mentioned, trying to land or anything with Sinza is bound too fail ;) Especially with M1 or M2 ;)

ahhh and the max. speed of your ship can sometimes cause problems as well. The nice M5 are bound for problems....too quick...I only say Blitz ;)

You're right, it shouldn't. But some ships have a weird collision model (I found it the hard way docking a terran capital ship in the HUB) which collides with the station borders during landing even with autopilot = instadeath. In which case, the solution is to get on another ship, go out of sector, remotely order the first ship to dock (collision are only calculated in the sector the player is in) and re-enter the sector after it's landed.
There is also a very expensive docking module which says it "automates the docking procedure", but in fact it's a sort of teleporter device that brings you to the station immediately, skipping the whole landing process. Of course, if your ship collision model is incompatible with the station you will STILL crash while undocking, which means you STILL need another ship...

That's great, pity it's expensive. How much exactly? I mean, do I have to play 10 hours or 100 hours before I will (on average) be able to acquire such an item?

Ouch but is there a way to find out if one's ship will be compatible with a station then?

I tried contacting Egosoft some time ago and they said that maintaining anything else besides Steam is a hassle for them, that Steam is so wonderful, that patches are auto-delivered and that they are so much in love with Steam that they don't want anything else.

It's not that bad, you can sometimes have issues with undocking certain ships from certain stations, but it's very rare. As for docking, after getting a docking computer, it won't ever be a problem. And with problematic ships I just transfer a different ship, undock both and teleport back...

20 or 30 thousand credits, but notice that it needs to be installed in the ship you're currently piloting, so you might need multiple copies...

Just save before docking and see if you crash. Generally speaking, exceptionally big or long capital ships are at risk, but to be fair it isn't a very common problem. It depends on how the ship and station collision models interact, 99% of the time you might be fine, but then you lose 3 hours of gameplay because you found the ONE station that isn't compatible with the shape of your hull. -_-
Voted.

The docking computer is transferable and if I remember well it costs about 19000 credits. That's peanuts. You can make billions of credits in this game :D. And there are many ways to make money... you can get fight missions, you can mine nvidium in khaak sectors, you can build stations etc.
