Foxhack: Any chance you can convince EA to add regional pricing to these? Please? I've been asking for years.
The problem is, they're currently getting delisted, so there's not even a way you could buy them, regionally priced or otherwise.

On Topic: Why would EA even bother at this point? Do they really think their whales are going to buy some games from 20 years ago?

Best case scenario is that they're going to make them open source, but ppppppsh, as if EA would do that.

My money is on they're doing remasters. Or they have decided to sell the rights to another publisher because they're not interested in the IP anymore.

Many of EA's latest additions -had- regional pricing applied. All of their classic catalog is just stubbornly left out. Activision is the same. I hate it. I want to give them money, but damn it, give us regional pricing. :P

SmollestLight: We’d like to inform you that, on publisher's request, Ultima Underworld 1+2, Syndicate Plus and Syndicate Wars will be delisted from our catalog on Monday, June 28th, 1 PM UTC.

For everyone who purchased the titles prior to delisting, they will remain in their GOG library.
Thanks for the heads-up, just grabbed UU 1&2. Pretty sure my floppies have gone to magnet heaven by now.

These games were fantastic btw, especially for their time. Hard to believe Ultima Underworld was doing full 3D environments a year and a half before DOOM was released.

SLP2000: I'd rather say those games will get remakes or EA sold them to someone else (THQ Nordic?)
Why would they remake the Underworld games?

Let's be serious here: The original creators did a Kickstarter and - despite these games being universally considered classics, trailblazers and ending up on just about every "best gaem evur!" list ever made - they couldn't even crack the $1 million mark. And the final product was derided across the board and (presumably) BOMBED hard.

Does that sound like the kind of thing a AAA corporation like EA would dirty its fingers with? I mean, I'd gladly be proven wrong on this, but from what I'm seeing they wouldn't touch UU with a 10 foot pole.

aluinie: Oh for F**K sake why the hell would EA want them delisted unless its the start of making them origin exclusive.
avatar
karnak1: I'd say it's quite likely. Although I don't think the average Origin customer is the ideal buyer of such games.

It's also possible that EA have plans to launch a new game in the Syndicate or Underworld franchises and want to regain absolute control over the ip and selling rights.

EDIT: I admit I'm a bit shocked at the apparent lack of reaction from the GOG customer base (usually so fast to jump at certain controversial issues) :(
I hope it's because many are not used to pay attention to the "stickies".
I would not know about this if you would not have menioned it in join our throwback party and meet unforgettable classics thread, so thank you, and yes, I am pretty angry about that.

Why the heck would they do that?
Luckily, I have bought Syndicate long time ago + bought the Ultima Underworld now, even though I don´t plan on playing them; for this price it´s a steal.

You should at least try to play UU1, even if only for a couple of hours (assuming that you never tried the game before). You'll be amazed how a 1992 3D RPG already had crafting and survival mechanics and even simulated gravity and physics. It used the "WASD" keys (so that players could navigate the world with the left hand and control the mouse with the right one, just like today's games).
Years ahead of its time, it was.

All right then - sounds like very much when I was surprised when I first played Thief (which is from the very same people) and was amazed by wonder: "They did THIS in 1998?" I as absolutely hooked on the gameplay and story, Thief became one of my favourite games of all time - still playing it with mods and fan-missions, of course :)

karnak1: Maybe they're gonna be removed sooner or later as well.

Canuck_Cat: I fear this is exactly the case. If anyone wants EA games, now's the time to buy them specially with them being on sale.

I really don't know if that is true. For example
Alpha Centauri , NOX were released on GOG 2011-06-09 which means that they should have been delisted this month.

Noob here...what does it mean for a game to be delisted? I've already purchased the game and it's in my library. Does this mean that I won't be able to reinstall it using GOG Galaxy? So I should figure out a way to download the install files and manuals now?

It means it will be removed from being sold from that date on, but if you already own the game it will still be there and you can download and play it whenever you wish.
That´s terrible news, EA making friends, :(

By one hand i´d like to buy some EA games like the Sim City saga if they remove it too, but by other hand it would be give money to someone who doesn´t deserve it. I´ll keep my original discs anyway.
thanks for the heads up, got them ;)

Speaking of failed Ultima revival projects, how about Shroud of the Avatar, another "Oh boy, time for my illusions to be shattered en-masse" project, which turned out to be nothing but a whale farm?
Maybe EA sold their rights to someone else and soon it will reappear from new publisher? Maybe NightDive acquired them?)
