I'm serious. It's just a cesspool of people throwing out snarky one-liners about people/groups they disagree with, or having nigh-incomprehensible 140-character shouting matches and retweeting so their followers can dogpile those they disagree with. All it does is encourage people to be even more close-minded, insulting, and clique-ish than the internet already makes them, and give you a chance to be constantly saddened by the discovery that your heroes are just as rude and closed-minded as the rest of humanity. And probably hate you by default because you happen to be part of one or more of the groups they tweet snarky one-liners about.

Twitter makes assholes out of everyone it touches.

Ok, I just needed to get that out of my system. I'm seriously getting fed up with it, though, and I'd love to move to some other social media as my source for interacting with other gamers/developers. Any suggestions about where would be the best place for that?

Oh, so it's like Congress.
Your quote-
" Twitter makes a**holes out of everyone it touches. "

Correction

"Twitter exposes the a**holes"

That's the great thing about internet.

It exposes human nature for what it truly is.
I giggle.

Almost as much as when i had to listen to facebook users' dramas.

Seriously, have you tried email and instant messenging ?

Yes. Yes it does.

I wouldn't say that's a great thing, though.

Well, it's not great to be constantly exposed to the assholiness of the public, but at least by exposing it, it tells you who to avoid. That's kind of great?
While it's mostly about YouTube, this song still seems relevant to the discussion at hand.

Yeah, that works fine for keeping in contact with people I know. Not so great for meeting other devs/gamers, though.

EDIT: (mostly developers)

That's the one thing that keeps me going back to Twitter. You get a constant stream of "stuff", and sometimes it's actually quite interesting (the #gamedev hashtag in particular). It's just that if you actually want to have a discussion with anyone... yeah.

Also, email/IM only work if you have friends. Therein lies the rub.

I signed up for Twitter a little while ago because of an author/musician that I liked, and her famous husband - but it seems even famous people just spout marketing stuff or things that really make no sense unless you're on the "inside" - and I certainly don't have time to wade through all that crap.

I gave up FB and have now added Twitter to the list.

They respond on Facebook. All of the "gamer platforms" suck for that though and I highly recommend avoiding gaming social platforms. :P

My only problem with twitter atm is all of the bots and auto-follow scripts that people use to attract you to their pages via notifications. But so far it's been pretty good.
So (and I shudder to ask) how is Reddit, anyway? I have literally never used it. Would that be something of an alternative? Granted, people are still going to be people, but at least discussion isn't limited by 140 characters...

it's definitely better than twitter but, the underlying issue remains;

people are just generally pretty terrible.
I never quite saw the need for twitter... Or facebook...

Actually I remember someone installed a plugin in a chat room where we were talking technical stuff.. Then it would randomly say 'XXX just tweeted fork()' which made NO sense :P
