Now with GOG Galaxy achievements.

This War of Mine is absolutely unique. It's been described as The Sims meets war-torn Eastern Europe. An experience equally personal, but one that sheds a whole new light on the human experience in a time of crisis.

The critically acclaimed survival game is now available here on GOG.com with the 1.4 "New Beginning" update. With it comes expanded gameplay including new, more diverse characters, as well as more options for the Scenario Editor. The game is now also available in Korean, Japanese and Turkish.

Finally, patch 1.4 introduces GOG Galaxy achievements into the DRM-free release - just in case surviving the war wasn't a good enough motivation. You can now pick up This War of Mine with a 60% discount until October 19, 2:59 PM GMT.

rodrolliv: But what is the bug about!?

I, too, am still waiting for oasis789 to elaborate.

jalister: For the most part, worrying about or considering achievements breaks the immersion for me. If you need achievements to enjoy a game, then the game is just not good. I also don't need achievements for bragging rights. I play games for me, not to impress others.
There are games which run on achievements, as in, they're integrated into the game mechanics. You might not like such games, but dismissing them wholesale as inherently bad is super fucking myopic.

Lone_Scout: GOG Galaxy Achievements? I need them as much as I need DRM... :-/
That's why we call it freedom from chores. :P

True, apparently that's the case with S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat:
A tip for you newcomers to this game: Sometimes you will see you got an achievement. Those achievements aren't just for show; they give special benefits that help you! Check your in game PDA for details on them.

Hopefully, this particular kind of achievement will never require the use of Galaxy.

I'm not sure, but I think the bug being mentioned has to do with the morale hit your survivors take after looting from bandits. Apparently, if you kill the bandits and take their stuff, the survivors get sad and depressed. (I have not encountered this bug as I have yet to successfully kill anyone other than the soldier at the supermarket).

Well, that hardly sounds game-breaking, if that's all he meant. Also, is it possible that that morale drop is intended? The fact that some players might think it's stupid that killing armed hostiles decreases your survivors' mental well-being doesn't mean that the developers didn't intend for ALL killing to be a devastating occurrence. Just a thought.

If that was it, that's not even close to game breaking (as you said, if it's even a bug).
I've had this on my wishlist for a while but was undecided on if it was a game I would get into or not. Now at this price I have no qualms at all. Bought.

Hmm hope I'm leaving enough money to buy concert tickets for the next month or two that I had my eyes on.

This seems like an intended game feature rather than a bug ...

Hmmm I think that's how it's supposed to work. I mean you have civilians in a war zone being forced to kill and loot to survive. That has to have some effect on a person's morale.

Fairfox: I think there's meant to be some odd inconsistencies; killing and/or looting of bandits/murderers that then has detrimental effects. I'm only going off second hand knowledge at this point, and you could make the point that the characters would still feel bad after doing such things, but I don't know, I wouldn't feel bad looting from those that were harming others.
I wouldn't feel bad about killing raiders/aggressive gangs either (humanity is served), but then again, maybe I'm missing out on some weird common moral standards. :P
Imho, the damage in moral should depend on the character that is involved, isn't this the case in the game?

That doesn't sound like a bug, that sounds like gameplay. I mean, I'm pretty sure unless you're a sociopath that's a perfectly normal human response.

*edit LOL Klumpen0815 - no hard feelings ya? ;)

Not quite. It has to do with morale penalties being inconsistent. So on the first encounter with bandits in a particular zone, you get a morale bonus for fighting them, and you can loot without penalty. But on all future encounters with the same bandits, you suddenly get penalties instead for both actions. It's a bug that was introduced in patch 1.3 back in April and still not addressed even until today. What this bug does, is that it penalizes aggressive play, which is really the main way to play for half the zones and a good number of the characters, so players will find it much harder to experience the full scope of the game. At least without metagaming a workaround, but players shouldn't have to do something that takes them out of the game.

Well, I went and bought the thing, so if there are any bugs, I suppose I'll find out for myself. =)
