The great 2015 DRM-free GOG.com Summer Sale has finally drawn to a close and we can all take a breather, scroll down and take a look at what was going on throughout June that may have slipped your attention due to so many awesome deals.

Get yourself comfortably seated, grab a summer-appropriate beverage of choice, and prepare yourself for a satisfyingly organized list of GOG.com goings-on in true digest format!

RELEASES:

June 1st -- Massive Chalice

This kickstarter-born Double Fine strategy came to GOG.com as a day one release. Enjoy

Works on: Windows, OS X and Linux
Extra content: The game’s Original Soundtrack is available separately and 100% worth it.

June 2nd -- Star Trek: Starfleet Command Gold Edition

The tactical ship combat simulator joined a number of other Star Trek titles in our catalogue and we’re pleased to say it already feels at home.

Works on: Windows

June 4th -- The Masterplan

It’s a 2D top-down tactical heist sim, 70’s style. Your heist doesn’t have to be quick, and it sure doesn’t have to be easy - but it has to be spectacular.

Works on: Windows, OS X, and Linux

June 6th -- D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die

This fresh and different adventure game comes from the creators of Deadly Premonition. Go on a tireless search for your wife’s killer.

Works on: Windows
Extra content: The Special Edition (or upgrade your game) grants the Special Costume Set (12 Beers) DLC, the Special Art Book, the Season One Voice Over Script, and the Mini Soundtrack.

June 9th -- The Walking Dead: Season One

It’s a game of character development, survival, and quite a few emotions. You can expect plenty of difficult choices and getting too attached to characters that inevitably wind up dead. Not enough?

Works on: Windows
Extra content: The DLC episode, The Walking Dead: 400 Days, is also available.

June 9th -- The Walking Dead: Season Two

Remember those difficult choices from the first season? Here, they resonate and ripple across the story that lies ahead - so if you haven’t played yet, do be careful.

Works on: Windows

June 9th -- The Wolf Among Us

It’s a modern take on old fables with a gritty, mature, and violent neo-noir feel available for Windows. Beware of the improved choice and consequence system - it will only make the game more challenging - and stay alert to catch comic book inspirations.

Works on: Windows

June 10th -- Kholat

It is a game of survival and exploration, a walking sim gone horror, narrated by Sean Bean. Try not to get too inspired by your narrator’s movie roles and survive the Dyatlov Pass, where so many hikers mysteriously lost their lives.

Works on: Windows

June 19th -- Tales From the Borderlands

Continue the recklessly irresponsible race for Pandora's vaults, Handsome Jack is here to break the Internet!

Works on: Windows

PRE-ORDERS:

June 2nd -- Guild of Dungeoneering

Become the dungeon. Instead of controlling a hero, you get to create the field they are to explore. Combined with some awesome deck-building and watch things go according to plan or hilariously wrong.

Works on: Windows
Pre-order bonus: “Pirates Cove”, the first announced DLC pack

June 8th -- Armikrog

This unique stop-motion claymation comes from the creators of Earthworm Jim and Neverhood, and you will be able to enjoy its’ eccentric writing, surreal worlds, and lovable characters.

Works on: Windows
Extra content: The Deluxe Edition preorder comes with the game’s OST, composed by Terry Scott Taylor (the man behind the music from The Neverhood)!

June 11th -- Kyn

It’s an unforgiving Viking-themed cRPG, so be warned. Hand-holding? Don’t count on it. Active-pause? Ha-ha, nope. You’re a Viking, after all.

Works on: Windows, OS X and Linux.
Extra content: The Deluxe Edition comes equipped with the awesome soundtrack.
Pre-order bonus: The “Legendary Firemaster” armor set, including the “Eye of the Fire Axe” for extra fire and weapon damage and greater attack speed.

OTHER NEWS AND EXTRAS:

June 3rd -- Bloodstained coming to GOG.com

We announced that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is coming in full glory to GOG.com - and that we’ll be supporting the upcoming release with DRM-free versions to all Kickstarter backers of the game who pledge $28 or more.

We are also supporting Playtonic’s Yooka-Laylee Kickstarter with DRM-free versions for backers that pledge $15 or more. The game will be available for Windows, OS X and Linux starting on day one, so you can start getting excited!

Every Wednesday -- More free DLCs for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

went live, bringing the total count up to ten (of the promised sixteen). In order of appearance, we added:
-- the Nilfgaardian Armor and Elite Crossbow Set,
-- the Fool’s Gold quest and a new Gwent card set,

Ciris:
When is Kyn coming out anyway?

Does this mean you'll bring back the videos, except on Twitch so that Youtube doesn't relentlessly attack you for using stuff you already have permission to? =O
What I have missed is the announcement of winners in a couple of contests. Namely the Grim Fandango poster contest, The Broken Age character story contest and the GOG theme song contest.

So who won?

GOG, why don't you have any OSX versions of Telltale games? Even the new ones?
avatar
RichardHallas: And why is KYN listed here as being only for Windows, when the developer's site makes clear that it's for Windows, Mac and Linux?
avatar
Ciris: Fixed! Sorry, I must have gotten a little dizzy while copying and pasting the available systems and trying to navigate between the various bits of text to add necessary links/info - but thank you for pointing it out!
While talking about available systems, do you know if there is a special reason why there are no mac versions of the Telltale games? That question was already asked in the Waking Dead and Wolf Among Us threads, but I guess overlooked because of the work overload from the sale and the witcher/galaxy release. Is there maybe another studio involved and license problem, so it's very unlikely to see them anytime soon here?

GOG.com: June 3rd -- Bloodstained coming to GOG.com

[...]

June 14th -- Yooka-Laylee coming to GOG.com
These should probably be added to the 'Upcoming' tab on the main page.

Also, what's with Trine 3's release date being stated as April 21st of this year? Early access isn't the same as a final release date. And as the e.a. isn't even available here (or not yet), what's the point of even having that date there?

Did another company port it? If so that's your answer.

I hate to say it, but OSX has been getting the short end of the stick lately in general. Whenever a DOSBox game gets updated it's only the Linux version. This is weird to say the least, as every single one of them works perfectly fine on OSX once you extract the files and use them in whatever way you prefer.

Any chance you could get Darkest Dungeons here on GOG? The video game, not any movies.
Huh thought I was on top of all of the news, but somehow I missed the Yooka Laylee one, have to see about supporting another fun game coming to GOG! Really like how more publishers are responding to people's choices. Now if only Shenmue 3 would follow these last couple.
Meh. Missing is for npcs. I always throw a natural 20.
i always enjoy the gog sales, but, was really holding out for star wars sale... :)
oh well, another day then

I've had similar thoughts myself. In particular:

(a) Lots of new games have been coming out with Mac versions, but only the Windows one is available on GOG (e.g. KYN);

(b) There are loads of older games already on GOG for which it'd be dead easy to make an official Mac wrapper, but it simply hasn't happened. A great example is the absolute CLASSIC Heroes of Might & Magic series. These are TERRIFIC games, and I've been wanting GOG to release them 'officially' for Mac ever since GOG started supporting Macs... but it just hasn't happened, and I can't imagine why not.

(c) In the early days of Mac support on GOG, there were various terrific updates when GOG added Mac support for lots of existing games; two or three such events with big catalogue updates. That's when Mac support got added to a lot of items in the catalogue. But it's ages since it happened, yet there's still loads of material that could and should be processed and made available for Mac.

Clearly its possible for one to do it oneself with Wineskin or whatever, but (a) GOG really ought to do it 'officially' (after all, it's in its own interests to have Mac compatibility there, as well as being a convenience for customers), and (b) at present, only GOG has the ability to make stand-alone Boxer-based DOS games that don't require the parent Boxer application to run – which I rather like having. (The first two Heroes games could benefit from that treatment.)

NB You've fixed the post (thank you) but all the other information on GOG (i.e. the game page and the banner advert) still refers only to the Windows version. It would be nice to really know for certain that the other platforms, as well as Windows, are indeed coming to GOG.

This is important, because there's a pre-order involved, and people need to know in case they want the exclusive pre-order content. People would be rightly annoyed if the either (a) pre-orderered the game on GOG, expecting to get the Mac version, and ended up with the game only for Windows; or (b) didn't pre-order it because they thought GOG was only selling the Windows version, only to find the Mac version included when it was too late to get the extra pre-order-only content.

KYN is a bad example, as it hasn't been released yet. The info on the game's page might be placeholder for all we know (also see the opening post above, where it mentions that it does support OS and Linux here).

In some cases, there are indeed technical issues that are holding back a Mac release (like in Metro: Last Light Redux). In other cases, it might be legal reasons and having to sign a new deal with one of the companies. It's why we see strange strange releases like the absence of a Mac version, but the presence of a Linux version (like in Dark Forces).
