MS ceases production of the xbox 360

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2016/04/achievement-locked-microsoft-ceases-xbox-360-production/

well thats it then
the xbox 360 ushered the 7th gen in and is the second to bow out after the wii's demise in 2010
the only hold out is sony for how ever long that may last

the 7th gen is truly finally on its last legs
Long live the Xbox 360!
...yes, I only read the title. Why do you ask?
Edit: Meh, I'm sure I can come up with a better joke than that.
It's been....X-terminated?
360 noscoped?
Bah...I got nothin'.

I love my Xbox 360, it's the first console I ever owned after the Atari 2600 and the last I'll ever own probably (because now we get games on Linux, finally). It was a hell of a ride while it lasted and I'll still be using it for as long as mine is alive.
Well, for a console, a bit more than 10 years of production is really long.

Sure, we aren't in the 90s anymore, but I still believe that any console exploitation exceeding 6 years is long.

yer
most console generations are between 4 to 6 years
it was sony who pushed for a decade life cycles

the ps 1 lasted from 1994 till 2004
the ps 2 from 2000 till 2014 for an eyebrow raising 14 years
the ps3 is 11 years old and still going

ms killed the 2001 xbox after 4 years
but the 360 lasted 11 years

PS3 was still strong in Japan until last year, I believe. The real decline should have begun last year, and with the "Neo", I believe that Sony will want to focus only to PS4 and the new thing. So the end of PS3 could be nearer than expected with the PS2 lifespan.

i wouldnt be surprised
the ps3 had a good run but the end is in sight
It was bound to happen, sooner or later. The writing was on the wall. The man just bought his last ticket. Do unto others as you would undo your undies.

The good news is that my PS2 still works.

And don't forget that the PS2 still supported old PS games, on top of it!

Ah, the PS3 still supported PS games, but not PS2 games later on? Curious. In any case, I guess that means PS games are the console games with the longest support ever?
