You must be running out of ways to give away Witcher 1.

All download options are equal, but some download options are more equal than others.

It's just a way to obtain the game for free, once it's in your account you can download it any way you want.

Galaxy isn't DRM though, as far as i know it's just a launcher.

People complaining about this are being ridiculous. This game not only has been given away for free on several occasions in the past, it was also sold for literal dimes many times.

Anyone who genuinely wanted a copy most likely already has one.

Good point, I already have the game and don't use Goglaxy, so I couldn't check.
Perhaps I should have worded that differently, let me try again.

All GOG customers are equal, but some GOG customers are more equal than others.

And just to make it clear. The fact that they are giving away a game that probably everyone already has is irrelevant. The point is that this is yet another way of prioritising Goglaxy users. They have to start small before rolling out bigger guns.

Is it bad that it's being offered via GOG Galaxy client only? Yes, I do use it to install my games, however gog.com still offers you a means to download and install games via their website. You can even install the client, claim the license and uninstall it afterwards. Then you can use the website to download the game.

Look at Epic Games. It has offered a lot free games as part of their marketing, and many people has only created an account to claim it. That they have used the launcher afterwards is not a certainty.

Your complaint is silly IMO. Be happy that you can get it for free. I have paid for it at least.

Except that GOG Galaxy is the most optional launcher out there? Not only it is the most optional launcher, but it's actually the only launcher that makes sense.
Once the game is in your account, by all means delete the launcher and download the game from the site directly.

Hey GOG? Kindly eat shit for all the aggressive pushing to get people to move to your garbage client.

Sincerely,
-The userbase that got you where you are.
