MetoF50: Except that GOG Galaxy is the most optional launcher out there? Not only it is the most optional launcher, but it's actually the only launcher that makes sense.
Once the game is in your account, by all means delete the launcher and download the game from the site directly.
Paradoks: And my point is - I want it to remain optional. Things like this don't help. What guarantee do we have that in a sale or two, all giveaways don't require Goglaxy?
And then, some 2 or 3 years from now we may get a "good news" announcement, that GOG staff is overworked, offline installers require too much time to maintain and most users use Goglaxy anyway. So why bother with offline installers?
The launcher will remain optional. At the very worst, it may become a requirement to download the offline installers, which is what I normally use, since I don't want to rely on a browser.
Besides that, I don't believe GOG will risk their reputation by turning themselves into Steam. The main reason people buy from GOG is because games are 100% DRM Free with offline installers. And if they take that away, they will lose their entire userbase to Steam. That's it. And just because they ask you to download a launcher, just to claim a a free copy of a game, which btw is something nobody is forcing you to do so, you probably have the game already and if you don't, you have missed all of the previous GOG offers, doesn't mean they are taking steps forward to lock down the platform.
Have you even tried GOG 2.0 in the first place? If I get a choice to select one launcher and all of the others die, it's the Galaxy 2.0 that I would like to keep. Maybe this is a marketing strategy to get you to download the launcher and show you all of the new cool features it has that you might have missed on.
Do you know how many people made Epic Games accounts and downloaded the Epic Games launcher just to get a free copy of GTA V, they blew the servers? And that game is not DRM-free. You have Epic's DRM on top of Rockstar's DRM.
