Will there be a demo for the witcher 3? I'm curious if i can even run the game. I could run The Witcher 2 really well, but Witcher 3 looks really beautiful and I'm just hoping I get the chance to run it even if its at 720p and low settings!
I'd like a demo too just to get an idea how the game might run on my system.

what say you, gog?

I will provide three smileys.

:)

:)
A demo + benchmark. But I prefer a benchmark, because I have Witcher 1&2 and they are great games, and I'm sure W3 will be the greatest. But I need a benchmark to decide: Buy W3 and then upgrade my computer OR upgrade and then purchase W3.
A demo would be great, but a benchmark seems more feasible at this point.
Don't you know that you get a benchmark once you've bought the game nowadays? That's how smart most devs are.
+1 to this motion. Mostly to see what the new engine can do.
Agreed, I can't decide to pre-ordering W3 or upgrade my pc. A demo or Benchmark would be nice :)
Demo+demo exclusive carryover DLC+benchmark. Demo for testing combat, carryover DLC to at least discourage the pirates and benchmark since I can't tell you how many people I've met on hardware websites pirate Cryis and Metro games ''just as a benchmark''.
This is my old topic but I wanted to revive it now The Witcher 3 has "gone gold". I'd REALLY love a benchmark. I don't particularly want a demo, hopefully someone at CDPR sees this and agrees it'd be a handy tool.
Yeah, I'd just like to check if my PC can run it. It's a few years old and I think it may show its age with W3.
To the best of my knowledge, no.

I'm not sure if this isn't part of why CD PROJEKT RED made sure to announce the system requirements for The Witcher 3 loud enough - so that everyone can make sure if they have good enough systems to run it. And yes, it's not the same as actually testing a game out, but... To be honest, I don't know when I last heard about a demo for a game being created. It seems like the rather distant past :D but I may be wrong on that one.

Ofcourse you're wrong as a game GOG just released this week Titan Souls has a demo. Apart from that there are a few AAA and AA games that also provide demos, sometimes after release which is the best way to determine the performance of a game on each PC.

Demos may not be as common but almost all AAA games these days have a benchmark test option and some folks here are asking for that to be released separately which would be a good initiative from CDPR and show that they are confident about the optimization of the game.

That's a great question of which I've been wondering myself. I actually hoped to be able to test the game BEFORE the official release date to find out if it will run on my GPU at a rate acceptable enough for me to go ahead and buy the preorder and feel good about it, but there is likely no way to do that.

Having said that, due to the extreme system requirements published I decided to hold off on my thoughts of pre-ordering the game until such information is out there to make a more informed decision but I can't see that happening until actual gamers get their hands on the game post-release unless CDPR releases more information themselves. The type of information I want to know is something like:

"On a system that is exactly the recommended system to the letter *except* has a Radeon 7850 2GB, what frame rate might someone expect to get at 2560x1600 resolution, and what rate at 1920x1200? What resolution might they need to use to get greater than 45 frames per second consistently?"

Until I can find answers somehow to those questions I probably will hold off from purchase though - but... I did figure out a way to find out on my own if I can't garner it from other players.

Steam Family Sharing. You just need to know one person on Steam that owns the game and have mutual trust with Steam Family Sharing even just for a short interval to do the test. Then, set it up, install the game on your computer and test it - if it works you can make the purchase decision based on that more easily. So... that's what I'm currently planning on doing assuming one of my friends buys the game on Steam and is willing to let me do a short hour or two long test of the game with it. If not, the other option is to let a friend log into their Steam account on your own computer and install and test the game without Family Sharing. I suppose one could do that with GOG also though.

So whether there is an official demo or not, there are ways to demo it with certain constraints. I do hope they put out a demo of some kind mind you but it might not be easily possible for such an epic and massive game either. Even if it is an unplayable demo that just shows off the game engine railshooter style like a benchmark app or some such.

I wont buy a new GPU for the game anytime soon - however... I totally am interested in buying a VR headset sometime within 6-12 months after they start to appear on market possibly, and they have much lower resolution than what I use on my desktop which could make games like this possibly more feasible with my existing GPU setup.

Again though... need some way to demo-test ahead of spending cash, and Steam Family Sharing is looking like the most viable approach so far. Mind you, I'll be buying the game on GOG.com personally, the only variable is whether it is sometime in the next month or two, or in a year or two. :)

Update: For those not familiar with the feature, you can find out about Steam Family Sharing here.

Demos come out all the time, here's a good stash of them:
