If I have to choose between one evil or another, I'd rather not choose at all – Geralt of Rivia

15 years ago, on October 26th, 2007, CD PROJEKT RED released the first part of The Witcher series, the beginning of the incredible adventures of Geralt of Rivia and his companions. Although it was the developer's first game, this story-rich, atmospheric, fantasy RPG received critical praise around the world and started to gather crowds of fans whose love for The Witcher’s world was either reignited or started anew.

And it is 2007’s The Witcher that allowed the series to later bloom on an absolutely massive scale with both The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and now already legendary The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt.

In celebration of the birth of The Witcher, CD PROJEKT RED announced the REMAKE of the original title!

The project, previously referred to by the codename "Canis Majoris" during the studio’s Strategy Update earlier in October, will be a modern reimagining of the first part of The Witcher Trilogy. It will be built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5 technology, and will use the toolset CDPR is creating for the new Witcher saga. The project is currently in the early stages of development at Fool’s Theory — a game development studio specializing in role-playing games. The team employs numerous veteran developers who previously worked on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. In addition, CD PROJEKT RED is providing full creative supervision. You can find the original announcement HERE.

It is impossible to express how excited we are hearing that news! But then again, incredible titles deserve incredible anniversary gifts! We would also like to pitch our part to this and remind you that you can claim The Witcher: Enhanced Edition for FREE!

bob2787esq: For some reason I thought the next game would be a new installment and not a remake so let's hope there's some extra bits or a different way to get from start to finish to spice things up a little.
Both seem to be correct

"It will be built from the ground up using Unreal Engine 5 technology, and will use the toolset CDPR is creating for the new Witcher saga. "

They do the remake and will create a new Witcher game as well as announced.

VanishedOne: Specifically, they made Seven, which is sold here, but perhaps there's a reason GOG didn't mention that.
To make it easier for GOG to read regardng Seven

Game outdated (and abandoned at GOG) for two years now.

GOG! Fix this. These are your "partners" and we are your "customers" who depend on you. If you are unable to tell your "partners" to update their games here as well, please explain, why we have to live with outdated games just because we made the bad decision of buying our game here. I am so fed up of GOG doing nothing against outdated games and I am sure not alone here. Maybe we should not buy another game from devs who have already an outdated game here on GOG ... or should we? Why?

This was exactly my thoughts when I saw this. I looked up the people contracted to do it and found that.
If I have to choose between one evil or another, I'd rather not choose at all – Geralt of Rivia

Seems like a brilliant epigraph for the post about Witcher 1 'remake'/''modern reimagining', isn't it?

Have no idea how to make money after Cyberdung? Eat the consequences of your own greed and incompetence.
"you can claim The Witcher: Enhanced Edition for FREE! "

$1.69 is not what i would call "FREE"
The Witcher has a very special place in my heart so this made me slightly hard.

They'll probably update the combat to a more modern system but I hope there's a toggle to switch to the original (probably won't work if they keep the original skill system).

Like many have said "why remake something that is already perfect?" The remake will in no way diminish the original or change how I view the original. It should work to attract more people to the witcher IP so that's a good thing.

I'm excited.
Good news. First one is unplayable.

€1.19 is a strange interpretation of FREE :(

"“Geralt,” she said “Has Stregobor asked you to kill me?”
16
“Yes. He considered it to be lesser evil.”
“Can I take it for granted that you refused then, just like you refused a moment ago?”
“You can.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t believe in lesser evil.”
After Renfri smiled delicately, her lips was contorted by a grimace looking nastily in the yellowish glow of the
candle.
“You don’t believe, you say. You see, you are right, but only to a certain extent. There is Evil and the Greater
Evil, and behind both of them, in the shade, there is the Very Great Evil. Very Great Evil Geralt is one which you
cannot even imagine, even though you thought that nothing can surprise you. And you see, Geralt, sometimes it goes
so that this Very Great Evil clutches you by the throat and says: “Choose, fella, either me or that one, slightly lesser”.
“May I know what you are aiming at?”
“At nothing. I’ve had some drink and I’m preaching philosophy, I’m looking for general truths. And I’ve just found
one: the lesser evil exists, yet we do not have to choose it by ourselves. This Very Great Evil is capable of forcing us
into such a choice. Whether we want it or not.”
“I must have drunk too little,” the witcher smiled tartly. “And midnight has just passed, like midnights do. Let us
proceed to the matter..." (...)

No! wait...it`s still few hours to midnight....

Have a good remake CDPR so we can have it with You! ^

It is free if you pick the starter Gwent pack thingy that has been around for a long time.

MarkoH01: This came surprising for me ... interesting but I am not sure if I'd want to replay the same story again. Well, time will tell.

What I find amusing though is the "get Witcher Enhanced Edition for free" part since to get it for free you will need to get Gwent as well (which might be the reason that some won't even use this offer because they simply hate to get things forced onto them and Gwent is a prime example for this ... no matter if it is good or bad, it is forced). The funniest aspect of this offer though is that it is ongoing since years now (google it and you will find the announcements - they never took the page offline) ... so not that much of an anniversary offer anyway. I am not sure but I think the game also once was available for free here without the Gwent requirement ... but I could be mistaken on this.

But I don't want to rant, the above is merely a funny observation of mine. I really enjoyed the Witcher games and it all started with Witcher Enhanced Edition which I got in a giveaway this community had done. So thanks for this, thanks for all the enjoyable hours I had with the Witcher games and happy anniversary CDPR and "The Witcher Enhanced Edition" :)
You can get The Witcher EE for free (= subscribing to a newsletter). You do NOT need to own or buy GWENT.

Of course, you'll need GWENT to use the Card Keg but you should just get The Witcher EE without owning/buying GWENT.
Just click the 'GET IT FREE' on the Welcome Bonus page and you'll see (https://www.gog.com/gwent-welcome-bonus)
Looking forward to snagging this when it comes out, as Fools Theory have some great artists, so it will look stellar at least, here's to hoping the gameplay remains intact!
I don't like jumping on the negative bandwagon, but why not just put all your effort into The Witcher 4.

Why do we really need another remake, to compete with the original?
It is like trying to rewrite history ... stupid and wrong.

Leave The Witcher as it is. Sure learn from the past and grow, but don't go backwards and attempt to do it all over again.

Take pride in what was created, warts and all, leave it as is for nostalgia, and move onto new original projects.

Remakes are rarely worth it and are a dumb mindset to have for creatives in most cases.

Is the game really that out-dated that it needs or calls for a remake?

But if you really have to remake it, make it quite different, so that it feels more like an addition to the series, not a silly replacement.

Sorry. my mistake. You aren't forced to buy Gwent you are forced to get a newsletter ... not much better for those who refuse to get the also free Gwent. You see, the problem ist not WHAT they force, the problem is THAT they force somethiing upon you and are still calling it free. Especially here on GOG where freedom is a key selling point this is not a really good idea.

To make it clear: I do own The Witcher and I do also own Gwent AND subscribed to the newsletter before they even offered such "free" keys that had the newsletter as requirement. This is not about me, it is about the principle of getting something for free or rather forcing people do do something and still calling it free.
It states we can claim this game for free, however I do not see any giveaway, it says Witcher Enhanced Edition still costs money??

*edit: And yes, I've been signed up for the newsletter. How do you think I knew about the giveaway!?
