[CHANGELOG UPDATED]

Patch 5.2.0 (28th June 2016)

- Fixes a problem with buggy graphics on Mac, resulting in square, coloured artefacts appearing in scenes. This also includes other visual fixes for the Mac
- Fixes an issue with missing lights in the Enclave in Book Two, affecting dialogues with Enu and Likho
- Makes it easier (we hope!) to solve the musical puzzle in the Journeyman Inn for tone-deaf players
- Fixes an issue with the materials on the Dreamer in chapter 7, to make it less shiny. It was too shiny. Way too shiny
- Brings back missing sound-effects and voices for the guards banging on the roof gate in the Friar's Keep scene
- Updates the cut-scene with Mira at the end of the Kidbot job path — nothing big, it should just look better now
- Fixes an issue with buggy anchoring in the settings menu
- Fixes missing collision geometry in Marcuria, which made it possible to exit the world — no more YouTube videos of flying Kians!
- Boosts footsteps on wooden surfaces, which was noticeable in (e.g.) the Hand That Feeds
- Improves email format check for Red Thread account setup, to notify users of things like double @s
- Fixes an issue with targeting Crow on top of Klacks' stage in Book Four, which was frustrating
- Fixes a problem with the light beams in the Book Four Interlude on Macs, which made it super hard to solve the puzzle. Other light beams should also be improved now on Mac
- Fixes an issue where players could enter the vintner's booth and confuse the vintner in Book Five. You don't want to confuse the vintner
- Fixes an issue where you could open the game menu while a scene faded in, which caused the game to stop responding when loading a previous save
- Some smaller fixes which might rightly be considered spoilers if we included them here, so we didn't

This version does not include German and French subtitles. These will be included in version 5.3, which is tentatively scheduled for next week.

Added changelog for Dreamfall Chapters to game forum.

Also created changelog thread for Crookz - The Big Heist, would appreciate it if a blue-text made it a sticky, thanks.
Dreamfall Chapters is missing the 3rd .bin file on the download page (64-bit version). Oddly, all the .bin files for the 32-bit version are there.

Odd... 5 minutes ago I had the same problem, but it seems to be working now. Someone must have read you and fixed the issue. :)

immi101: "depending on the contents" being the important keyword here ;)
if the game assets are already well compressed because the developer aimed to reduce disc IO/loading time, then any additional compression probably won't give dramatic savings anyway. And music/video files usually will give you hardly any compression at all.
Not sure that decompression time will improve. In my experience zip still beats xz in terms of speed.

There have been people here in the forum who have done and published some more detailed benchmarks.
Not quite sure where to find those posts though ;)
might have been in the stickied linux thread iirc
Of course it depends on the contents, certain content such as lossy compressed audio and video will not generally compress further with any form of lossless compression and in many cases may increase in size slightly (although generally negligibly). However, software developers are notorious for not storing software assets in formats that conserve space, or in archive/WAD type files to reduce disk space wastage due to on-disk blocksize allocation (which wastes 50% of the size of one block per file on average). Text files, scripts and other text data, uncompressed audio data and lots of other file types can however generally greatly benefit from modern compression algorithms such as LZMA2. Whether or not a specific piece of software/game benefits depends on how efficient that particular piece of software is already storing its data, and how much benefit the data might get from being compressed with modern compression. There will naturally be examples where dramatic reduction in size is occurs, others where moderate reduction in size occurs, others where small reductions in size occurs, others where only negligible differences occur, and a small number where the size may increase as the data is already stored very efficiently already.

It's not a black and white magic panacea of course, but something that needs to be looked into on a case by case basis. But if someone cherry picks a game that is say... 10GB in size and 9.75GB of that is H.264 encoded MP4 video files then they are probably going to find that LZMA2 compression does not help at all. If they then use that as their "test case" and draw wide conclusions they may incorrectly assume that this means no benefit can be had from the compression on other games also, which would be naive.

While some are fond of trying to apply rules in an all or nothing fashion to things like this, it doesn't really do justice to anything. There are useful tools out there, and they're worth investigation on a case by case basis. What might be useless with one game to even bother trying, might shrink another in half. Might not be worth the effort in some people's eyes, but it's always worth it in my eyes, and in my past experiences investigating these very sorts of things as new archivers come out over the years and computers become more powerful etc.

Patch 348 (29th June 2016)

- Fixed problem with Efficient Machine progress not updating
- Ensure F8 Screenshot debug info cannot stay on screen permanently
- Prevent unintentional scrolling in Journal when accessed from Radial Menu
- Fixed badly-scaled Salty Cracker boxes.

Patch 347

- Fixed crash that could occur on the Journal or Melt Snow UI when using a gamepad.

- Fixed bug that prevented the player from leaving a ruined Snow Shelter.
- Fixed issue with Wolves sometimes not attacking when player is crouched.
- Updated Fire Starting UI to make it more clear that Tinder is optional when Firestarting Skill is Level 3 or higher.
- Fixed bug that caused radios to float if supporting structure below them was broken down.
- Clarified objective text for Whiteout Challenge.
- Linux stability improvements (Required intro movies to be disabled).

Patch 346
NEW LANGUAGES

- New Languages selectable from Display Options: French, Swedish, Korean, Chinese (Trad + Simplified), Japanese, Turkish, Norwegian

GAMEPLAY

- A Snow Shelter can now be crafted and deployed from the Radial Menu. This Shelter protects from wind and cold, but leaves you vulnerable to wildlife.
- First-pass Survival Skills system has been added to the game, with the first test skills implemented. See the Skills section of the Journal for more information. The first Skills are: Firestarting, Cooking, Carcass Harvesting, Ice Fishing, Rifle Firearm
- First-pass Feats system has been added to the game, with the first test Feats implemented. See the Feats section of the Badges menu interface for more information. The first Feats are: Book Smarts, Cold Fusion, Efficient Machine, Fire Master, Free Runner, Snow Walker
- You can now find Research Books in the world. Spending time Researching these books will improve specific Skills.
- Nomad Challenge added. Survive for 3 days each in 15 different locations around the world.
- Whiteout Challenge added. Stockpile supplies and survive for 30 days as a monster blizzard bears down on you.
- First-pass Almanac feature added (to support Whiteout gameplay).
- It is not longer possible to Craft complex items (requiring a Workbench) in the dark. You can still Craft simple things from the Radial Menu in the dark. You also cannot Repair items in the dark.
- Brandishing now costs Stamina and not Fatigue.
- When breaking down items, the raw materials produced now go directly into your Backpack (vs. being placed on the ground to then be picked up). This will result in fewer bugs relating to harvesting items being stuck behind geo.
- Fixed issues with Wolves sometimes walking in place.
- Warmth from Bedrolls is now taken into account when Resting in Vehicles. (Note: You also get a Warmth bonus from Bedrolls when Resting in the Snow Shelter.)
- You can now see descriptions for active buffs in the First Aid screen.

UI

- New Fonts added to the game.
- Brightness correction now occurs before the Main Menu. Subsequent Brightness changes can be made from the Display settings, accessible from the Main Menu.
- Reduced the number of stacking Damage event icons during Wolf struggles. (Note that the number of Damage events is still the same.)
- Added new Skill section to Journal
- Added new Almanac section to Journal
- Added new Objectives section to the Journal
- Added new Snow Shelter Build/Use/Dismantle UI
- Added Badge art for all Challenges
- Added Badge art for new Feats
- The Badge interface can now be accessed from both the Main Menu and the Pause Menu
- Added notifications for Skill Improvement, Skill level unlock, and Feat unlocks

AUDIO

- Added audio kickers for Skill improvement, Skill level unlock, and Feat unlocks

GENERAL

- Player is warped to a safe location if we detect player has fallen through world
- Screenshot keys no longer force UI to chance from Gamepad to Mouse/Keyboard
- Significantly reduced color banding in low light conditions
- [For Streamers] We've added support for being able to access a second monitor without Alt-Tabbing. (Note that this will become a toggle in a future hotfix.)

A Note on Leaderboards
As we've deepened the options for player experience in the game, and provided more ways to share your progress with other players, we feel that Leaderboards don't represent a meaningful measurement of game progress, and therefore we are removing them effective immediately. We look forward to continuing to improve our in-game tools for sharing progress and player accomplishments.
