It must be something you're doing or some other problem at your end that's causing this because I cannot reproduce these problems on any of my systems. I've even tested on my Windows install in case it's an issue with VirtualBox on Windows, but it works fine for me there too.

What exactly do you do before it breaks? Here are the details for my main system:

Host:
i7 2600k @ 4.4GHz
16GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 750Ti
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit / Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64 bit
VirtualBox 5.0.20 (with extensions installed)

VM:
Type: Linux
Version: Ubuntu 64 bit
2048MB RAM, 16GB VHDD (dynamic .vdi)
2 cores, PAE/NX enabled
Video memory maxed, 3D Acceleration enabled
All else at default settings

I installed Linux Mint 17.2 into the VM from mounted .iso: linuxmint-17.2-cinnamon-64bit.iso

MD5: b8a0651bb0086519fbf7a70fc12db17e
SHA-256: 9eca98efa8917d56985aeb0671fba63dc540f6350210fa2838b1ddf89317468d

Rebooted VM after installing and tested everything, all works perfectly as expected. Installed all available level 1-3 updates, rebooted then tested again - everything still works fine. Left it to sit for a while, everything still works fine.

There is no reason why it should be any different on your systems... as you've tried several systems with identical symptoms a hardware fault can be ruled out, and as it's running in a VM the environment should be fairly consistent.
I fixed most problems, this is actually good for learning the environment.

I fixed Firefox problems. Installed Java and Flash using through terminal using sudo -s first and then applied each version through that screen. Now it works fine and doesnt reset after restart.

I fixed my excel files formulas. I still have no idea why it could possibly do that.

Voice is still low and clock is still holding back. I will post here if i can find a solution.
Hey all,

So I installed Manjaro Linux in a VirtualBox setup. Besides the fact that VB crashes whenever I hover the mouse over any its window menus, my main problem is getting an internet connection in Manjaro. How do you even get that working?

I am no expert but mine is set to NAT in VB settings. I found that to be the best option for Mint.

Have you checked the VirtualBox website for any possible causes for program instability?

As for internet connection, as long as you have a stable internet connection in your host OS, I've always found that leaving the network settings at their default always works for me.

EDIT: Just had a quick thought -- if the default settings don't work, you might want to check out what possible firewall rules you have set up, if any.

Engerek01: After a sleepless night and trying to fix it for 24 hours, still NOTHING works. Even gEdit (notepad version of Gnome) doesnt work correctly. It successfully corrupted my excel and word files now they dont even work on windows. Firefox resets plugins everytime i reset and removes Java and Flash folders. Sound became very low, even in maximum i can barely hear anything. Not a single game works anymore. Chess, Unreal, even dosbox games like Master of Orion doesnt work without freezing. I installed 17.2 and tried updating again. Same result. Litterally NOTHING works after update. I only updated 1,2 and 3 level updates. I tried it in 3 different laptops' virtual machines and same result.

In short, it works perfect and fast before update and booting from flashdrive. But it goes insane after upgrading. In the future I will try installing it fully on a computer and try upgrading but for now i dont have a free empty PC.
This popped out at me. Is there any Level 4 or 5 updates appearing in your systems after the update process?
Are you using a LinuxMint iso for the upgrade process or doing a network upgrade each time? If it is the ISO, recheck that the ISO image hashsum matches the hashsum from LinuxMint website.

Another random thought, what kind of disk space usage are you seeing pre upgrade /post upgrade?
"df -lh" in a terminal window will give you that output.

Lastly, have you considered creating a new user id & logging in as that new user id to see if the same issues happen? It seems like the Linux Mint update process messes up your HOME directory hidden directories.
Deleting the hidden /home/$YOURUSERID/.mozilla directory after you backup your firefox bookmarks will reset firefox to a pristine state, with no bookmarks/installed plugins/extensions.

Ah, that could be it considering I have a very restrictive firewall that only allows connections I specifically let through.

Howdy.
Here's a link to the official VirtualBox manual http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/

Also here's the manjaro wiki link regarding VirtualBox & manjaro
wiki.manjaro.org/index.php?title=Virtualbox

Did you install the VirtualBox extension pack?

Manjaro internet connection problems: Is the network connection in Manjaro showing as disconnected? Does your host machine have multiple internet connections (wifi, ethernet, vpn)?

edit:fixed the broken links

Yes. I can see level 4 and 5 updates that i havent done after the update.

I am updating directly from internet. I havent downloaded 17.3 iso yet.

The updates take about 300 MBs of space.

Interestingly, there was no hidden mozzilla directory under my username. I dont have access to that laptop now but If i remember only mozilla folder was under /usr/lib/mozilla and I copied the plugins inside a plugin directory here.

Level 4 & Level 5 updates can destroy stable systems, so I would advise installing those last, unless you have a Mint 17.2 machine running as an VirtualM instance. If you do have a Mint 17.2 VM, snapshotting & reverting back from a snapshot is GODMODE for issue testing.

Manually copying over mozilla plugin directories from the /usr/lib directory might be causing part of your problems.
And you should DEFINITELY have .mozilla in your Home user directory.

Hidden folders work slightly different in linux than microsoft. Here is how you show hidden files in Linux Mint.

GUI Mode:
Open File Manager.
Edit ->Select "Preferences"
View Tab/Default View options
Check the "Show hidden and backup files" radio button
File Manager will reset/close itself.
Restart File Manager, and you should now see all hidden directories.

TERMINAL Window Mode: (Better for troubleshooting permission issues)
You need to use the "ls" List comand with the -a switch to see hidden files/directories. To make the output easier to read/detect if there is permission issues, I also use the "-l" to output in list mode.
Here is the slightly trimmed output of the ls -al command run on my LinuxMint 17.2 machine

andy@tety ~ $ ls -al

I dont have a "show hidden and backup files" option under where you described. I only have "Show Hidden Files" in view section. However, .Mozzila folder is there now. I can swear it wasnt there yesterday or i was high :))

About plugins, problems appeared before I did that copying manually because updating removed all the plugins Firefox had. Copying manually solved all of Firefox problems.

I learned that clock staying behind is a known VM issue on linux guests. I am searching for a fix.

Thank you for taking your time for helping me and explaining in detail. I appreciate your help.

No problem, glad to help someone out with confusing things in linux.

Definitely create a new user on your Linux Mint, and login as that new user. This will allow you to see if the LinuxMint issues you've been encountering are limited to your main user id, or are system wide. Doing this will take 5-15 minutes, and literally cannot harm any data or settings on your main user id.

A final thing to look at: Control Center/Software Sources (aka LinuxMint's version of Windows Update software master list).
I attached 2 screenshots so you have reference points to what I am describing.
Make sure that your Main & Base repository mirrors are valid/applicable to your country, uncheck any Optional components, and Restore the default settings.

Software Sources/Maintenance submenu , you probably want to run the "Purge residual configuration" & "Downgrade foreign packages" tools.

I created a new test account. Restarted VM and logged in with it. Time still delays and voice is still low which I am sure will not be the case in a real installment.

In Software Sources section it did not have a Turkish option for Main mirror. Actually my settings were exactly same as in your picture. I found a Turkish version for base. Maintenance also didnt change anything.
my mouse is acting funny. the middle button doesnt work now!

You haven't given us much to go on here...

Have you ruled out the mouse itself being at fault by testing it on another system, or by using another mouse? I've had similar issues before due to dust getting into them & causing one or more buttons to jam up; the middle button in particular is vulnerable due to the mousewheel providing an easy path for dust to get inside.
