Is there a reason why each individual game of the retro series are discounted but the respective bundle for each is full price?
I think because they think it will sell more units to have them individually reduced in price.

vv221: By "classic" I mean all games for 1 to 5 excluding Heroes of Might and Magic Ⅳ. Despite this last one being my favourite this is not one I would suggest to newcomers ;)
I've started with HoMM IV and had no problems. It's also my favorite game in the series. Personally I found HoMM III harder to get into.

But when you start with HoMM IV and get used to the flexible hero and army handling and the caravans it's hard to go back to an earlier HoMM version. HoMM IV also has the best graphics in the series, at least for me.

Good to know I am not the only one who likes HoMM IV :D
Maybe not as good as III, but I liked the changes in it.

Clairsentient: Are the demos removable from our library?
avatar
SmollestLight: No, Demos just like everything else will stay on your account. You can always hide them from your collection. =)
Just a thought: Hosting demos and free prologues collectively on a dedicated page with direct download links, accessible without account, could attract new customers. ;-)
avatar
Robette: No, which is the absolute main reason I don't get them. :)
(well, guess you could ask support to remove them manually)
avatar
Clairsentient: shoot, i wanted to try several games.
Thanks for replying.
But what is the problem with having a demo and then maybe someday having the full game?
Do demos lock ability to buy full versions all of the sudden or something?

joppo: *bursts out laughing after seeing Batman: Arkham Knight among "beautiful landscapes"*
Perhaps this (dark skies and all, dark atmosphere, etc) is a hidden message in regards to GOG's true nature /s (in regards to you know what)

Considering what captchas excercise this could be seen as sarcasm 100.

Greed?
Lack of QA?
Testing == production ?

As with many other things, dedicated GOGers fill the void left by official GOG practice.

For those who have not played these games: The main difference between IV and the rest is that the hero appears as a unit in the army during battles. Sounds neat, right?. However, the enemy could start by killing your hero straight away. That meant the battle was over. The battle became a contest of protecting your hero while killing the opponent's. Sort of like chess, but it did not really work that way: many enemies, if they had the first turn, were able to kill your hero in the first turn. Battle over and you did nothing . Not that fun. This is what most people used to II and III disliked the most.

Besides that, there were innovations, but it became commonplace (possibly unfairly) to despise IV. That, and people who had started with III took it as their gold standard (while people who started with II were more used to see the game changing in a sequel). Eventually V arrived and because of the backlash that IV suffered, heroes did not participate in the battles as a directly killable unit. This seems a solid approach that other games in the same genre have taken: Disciples, King's Bounty. Both IV and V brought innovation. IIRC, it was possible to send reinforcements without a "logistics" hero ferrying them out, to name one.

I appreciated HOMM IV as well, but my only gripe with it was the revised siege warfare. If memory serves, that part of the game reverted back to the traditional way in HOMM V, VI, and VII.

I've been playing the HOMM series since the very first one in 1995, and have purchased the games multiple times (physical, physical Gold editions, physical spinoffs (like Chronicles) expansion packs (such as Armageddon's Blade) collections, then digitally on GOG). When I learned on AOL one evening in late 1996 of the release of HOMM2, I immediately got in my vehicle and traveled several miles away to the local Computer City to purchase it. A group of gamers and I would create a chatroom in AOL called "HOMM" and start TCP/IP multiplayer games that never saw completion due to dodgy dial-up connections and impatient players, but they were still quite fun while they lasted!

I was aware of its existence, though thanks for sharing! :-) One really can't thank the community enough for doing what they do. Should be worth something to GoG, free games their way? ;-)

It's not necessarily what I have in mind. A shop-like page with demos and prologues which would unclutter the shop. To the same effect they could keep in development titles out of the shop even though those are for sale which would again improve the overall shopping experience. Should not involve much extra work on GOG's part to implement it. ;-)

Yes, of course. This is why that thread came into being. Free games and demos add a lot to the site. It would be nice if GOG made them easier to locate, and made a section of the site devoted to it, with a little imagination. Another thing that GOG might do would be to make easier to mage the game collection and tags. So that it was easier to hide demos without a lot of effort, as the web interface presently requires.

Personally I am happy that there seems to be a revival of the demo scene. A nice practice that benefits good games, especially games that dare to be original.

Actually making us work for Google. For free. So that AI can better replace humans. What a neat deal.

I don't want them to count toward my game's count.
Just a personal preference.

No, I have both the demo and full version of Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun assigned to my account.

That's what I'm afraid of.

Even when I hide a game, it still counts toward my total games.
