W3irdN3rd: Don't you think that's a bit naive? If you collect a million signatures for something you'll often get little more than a shrug. Laws that nobody breaks, don't cause trouble, missed revenue or create electoral risk are unlikely to be scrapped.
I understand your sentiment, I do. But in my opinion this does not guarantee anything in case of law changing. This is a good tactic against private companies, who base their actions on financial gain. Governments work differently.
I personally don't know any political party, that would backpedal on a decision they made, no matter how much people would break the law. This would only be a sign of political weakness. From my perspective laws change mostly after elections, when a new political body comes into place – and you don't really have to enter full rebel mode and risk legal penalties for the opposing parties to notice that your unsatisfied with a certain law.

W3irdN3rd: It is unreasonable. What kids watch or play is parental responsibility. The age check for alcohol purchases can be done by the shipping company upon delivery which is more effective than an online check.

With all the data leaks and whatnot, anyone should aim for as few organizations as possible to have knowledge of which porn sites any given individual is subscribed to. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point you could be denied car insurance because you played too much Carmageddon or blew up too many personal vehicles in GTA Online if databases with that information leaked. You wouldn't be told that was the reason, but such information could be used to decide which client to accept or reject. This already happens with various kinds of information. Don't you dare live in the wrong ZIP code..

So long story short I think it's good that GOG doesn't actively share what you play with other organizations. If you allow the government to force you to share this information you'll just find yourself on a slippery slope.
About the example with alcohol shipping. Firstly I see no basis for a delivery man to ask for my age when he's at my door. He's just the middle man, he's not selling this himself, so he has no personal responsibility in the matter. It is the responsibility of the shop owner, and it should be done before the transaction takes place, not after, cause technically he already sold alcohol to a minor, and broke the law. Secondly, at least officially, the delivery man should not know exactly what is in the package - this would violate the privacy of the buyer.

I never said I advocate for selling your private information. Confirming your ID online does not equal giving the right to sell stuff about you to different companies. Of course I know some of this stuff you said happens, but I don't see the connection to what I said.
Besides, most online services require you to insert private information anyway, so age verification adds nothing to this. You could make it like so, to only give the number of your ID card, so that an online store can verify with a government site, if you are green (an adult) or red (minor) - there is no need to give away anything else.

Thanks for Dagon, Bit Golem & GOG :D

W3irdN3rd: If stores would implement the age verification and consumers would accept it, the law will never change. If stores refuse to implement it and consumers pirate stuff and/or the age verification becomes politically unpopular the law might get overturned some day.
You forget one thing (talking about Germany only here): these laws were invented to protect children and you can do whatever you want but those who invented and those who support those laws will NEVER change them as long as they think (and they do) that such games and movies might actually be harmful to children. On the other hand those who don't support these laws simply will break others - meaning: using VPNs or even pirating games/movies - if they don't have any other chance.

W3irdN3rd: It is unreasonable. What kids watch or play is parental responsibility.
I completely do agree unfortunately there will always be a group of parents who actually don't care for their children or who isn't able to watch what their kids are doing 24/7 because of work and since this might be difficult/impossible anyway. I am not a parent but I am quite sure that we have several here in this community who could explain these problems much better than I do. The government has (at least in Germany) the responsibility to protect children and since some institutions think that certain games/movies might be harmful they do what they do.

Im Germany the only information you will share is that you are 18+ - nothing more. You don't share if you actually purchased or bought a certain game/movie - your account is just marked as being allowed to buy 18+ games/movies.

@GOG: Stuck In Attic (devs from Gibbous: A Cthulhu Adventure) stated on their discord that Gibbous is supposed to be discounted in the Halloween sale as well (as it is the case on Steam). Could you please recheck and fix this?

Thanks for your lists as always! Not that it makes much difference but I noticed either your script or the forum ate the ö in Röki. Edit: Wow, the forum mangled that badly, I see now it is likely your script removing it to avoid the forum mangling :/.

I noticed because got it in the flash deal and wanted to check how much lower it was ($1). I played for a while although not quite to the end yet. I am rather sick of adventure games in general at this point (yet somehow still buy them :/) but at least the puzzles make sense and I like the storytelling and the way mythology is used in the game. It has a low budget feel but I haven't hit any major bugs, just things like walking in air for a bit at times.

You could simply use "oe" instead of "ö" - so Roeki would be a valid alternative to the mess GOG forum (which of course will be fixed soom ;)) creates out of it.

Fun fact: RKI in Germany is known as well ... especially right now :D

That's HTML encoding. In HTML it says "Röki". It should say "Röki" or just plain "Röki", it shouldn't encode the ampersand. If the forum encoded ampersands first and other characters later this wouldn't be an issue. But the source of the problem is that instead of applying url encoding to the actual url, it encodes the name for the url ("Röki" in this case) as well.

Long story short somebody forgot their coffee.

Another strange thing: if you post anything url encoded, the forum decodes it, even before saving the raw text. So if you post "Röki" (I've encoded the ampersand before posting so you see the example of HTML encoding), the forum will save "Röki".

I remember at some point I tried to fix the problem by simply converting every non-ascii characters into simple ascii ones (in this case it should be "Roki"), but I guess I've screwed something up. These encoding-decoding issues are always problematic for me, sorry :)

By the way – I've just made my Halloween Sale purchase and I think it's a surprisingly good sale, for me at least.

Happy halloween folks!

Grabbed XCOM 2 and War of the Choosen DLC, probably a stupid question but each has its own executable which one should I play first? Is this a MHW and Iceborne kind of deal with base game plus expansion in War of Chosen exe file? Or is WotC a standalone DLC?

Happy Halloween!

From what google tells me. It is an expansion that runs on the base game, but has its own storyline and plot. If anything I'd compare it to Dawn of War: Winter Assault.

WOTC is a massive expansion pack that greatly expands upon & improves the base game (i.e. it adds powerful new classes for your soldiers, weapons, and gameplay-improving features that aren't available in the base game alone).

There is zero reason ever to play the base game without the WOTC expansion pack, as doing that would result in a much worse experience for yourself.

So in other words, it's not a matter of "which should I play first," since the best thing for you to do would be to play the WOTC version always, and the WOTC-less version never.

Ah thank you friends, good thing I only went for few missions in base game. GOG Galaxy launched it when I hit play but I got confused when I saw the separate exe on Desktop.
Not very Halloween in spirit, but I decided to pick up a whole bunch of flight combat games from the sale, like F-14 Tomcat and F-19 Stealth Fighter, among others. I'm looking to get a new flightstick as well, as I find my hotas-set too cumbersome to use, I want something simpler. So that's my next gaming project.

Speaking of differences between different versions of a game, what's the difference between Gucamelee gold and the turbo championship edition?
avatar
j0ekerr:
Just get the Turbo version unless you want to run it on Linux without wine (a post in the forum mentions that Turbo runs under wine) or Mac. They made a bunch of small tweaks throughout the game for the turbo version (seems slightly improved the part I compared), but little if any new content. I think the reason they sold it as a different game is just that they had sold a lot of copies through inexpensive bundles and figured many people would buy it again (I did; it is my favorite platformer :) or at least tied with the old SNES Donkey Kong Country games). I wish the two versions would be combined at this point.

ciemnogrodzianin:
It is strange that it doesn't seem to get replaced at all outside tagged text. If you tweak it at all (and it is easy enough to just look at the link text) maybe just adding "(link)" at the end with the link if it has non-ascii characters would be easiest. But better to spend the time playing the games IMO :).

Nice that there are some good deals, although I am happy I only found the one considering my backlog. I would try Jenny LeClue once the conclusion of the story is available. I got This War of Mine in a humble bundle at some point and didn't like it at all, only partly because the Humble version is bugged (Humble DRM-free games are abandoned much more often than GOG games, as in this case :(, although sounds like it was abandoned here for a while as well before getting updates again). I can't see what would be at all appealing about it, but it seems quite a few people like it for some reason so hopefully you will.
