You can do that however you like. The character names aren't correlated with any faction or powers. They are pure fluff. So you are welcome to name or even roleplay your character, if you so choose. But you are also welcome to keep it secret.

Since you are new, I'll add this: your role and powers, if you have any, however, should be kept secret until it is time to claim. The other players can explain to you what the benefits and dangers of claiming or not claiming are.

You edited this 4 hours after you posted it. I think only to unbold it and add in "(thank you for clarification)", but who can tell? Please go back to the rules and take particular note of rule 8. That rule is deadly serious, and really essential to be able to play mafia well in a forum setting. Breaking it deliberately is likely to be cause for immediate modkill. (If you're like me and incessantly rewriting your posts for clarity, to fix typos, or to fix broken formatting, that's hell, but you must learn to do without.)
