So, today I decided to get Grid Autosport Complete on Steam. Everything was going nicely, until PagSeguro's payment page failed to load (it was probably the wifi I was hooked on), so I got my transaction stuck in limbo.

I opened a support ticket and waited, but arriving home and doing a bit more research, I found out through PagSeguro's help site that I could cancel the transaction on Steam in a certain page and try again, prices retained.

It worked wonderfully.

So I went on and tried again. To my surprise, though, PagSeguro wouldn't allow me to use their tradicional buy method, trying to force me into using something called Creditos Gold, which seems to be another one of those virtual currencies that serve no other purpose than screwing the consumer. So, naturally, I gave up on the purchase.

I can't cancel it the way I did before anymore, so I updated my support ticket with information on why I gave up on the transaction.

Meanwhile, I've got to ask: are any Brazilians like me having problems with them as well? Last week I was able to properly purchase through them, so I must have caught the implementation of some new evil shenanigans. Should I expect the same problems here in gog.com? Is paypal safe to use? I remember someone complaining about paypal here recently, in PT-BR even, but I couldn't find the topic again.

Several years ago I had a lot of trouble with a purchase on steam through them too. I can't remember how it all happened anymore but I'm sure that I lost an extremely good discount on a game I really wanted because my transaction was stuck until after the promo expired.

That said, that wasn't the last time I bought something on steam and since every alternative we brazilians have (even boletos) goes though them, I can say that they didn't screw up any of the few purchases I made after the mishap. I would say it's more a matter of them being incompetent than outright malicious. Then again, after I contacted them and they did nothing, I can at least add laziness to the incompetence.

As for our purchases in Gog I avoid anything Pagseguro-related as much as I can because of my bad experience, thus I always buy in dollars with my international mastercard card. It might even cost a bit more but I'm sure it'll always be hassle-free and I know I'm not giving a single cent to that bunch of a*holes in pagSeguro.

Normally, I don't have problems with them, but this new Creditos Gold thingy seems like a bizarre attempt at cashing into something the games industry already learned is bad and hated (though I understand there are a lot of games/companies still using it). Worse, they are a payment company, not a game company, so it's even more misguided.

I gave the PT-BR discussion forum in Steam a look, but people seem to be more troubled with PagSeguro's payment screen not loading and boletos not generating properly and stuff.

Anyway, I suppose I'll learn what payment method I'll have to use in the future soon enough.

Yeah, you really shouldn't make any link between them and the game industry. They happen to be used by international digital distribution companies (including gaming) to manage brazilian payments, that's all. Their CEO definitely doesn't have the slightest idea what EA is doing or even if Ubisoft is some new brand of pillow. He'll be reading finacial magazines, but nothing about gaming.

Given that plus the fact our gaming hobby is something widely considered unimportant by the economic sector as a whole, you can be sure that any lesson that could be learned by looking at the game industry will stay sorely unlearned by these bigwigs decision-makers that never played a game in their lives. They're Dilbert-esque morons that can't see past the "Profit this quarter" column in a spreadsheet, even if their "bright ideas" will turn all customers away and run their companies to the ground two months later.

Just bought Slipstream here, using Paypal. Yes, it went through BoaCompra (PagSeguro's other website), but it didn't stop me from choosing and using Paypal to pay.

I guess it's Paypal or nothing from here on.
