Eschalon: Book Ι now FREE & seminal RPGs up to 80% off!

In many ways, the arrival of Torment: Tides of Numenera feels like the culmination of the isometric RPGs resurgence which started in recent years. With their impressive comeback still in full force, what better time to remind ourselves of their brilliance than an awesome RPG Sale?

Kicking things off with a bang, Eschalon: Book I is now totally FREE! GOG.com has a 24h head-start on this giveaway so fans of hardcore RPGs can already go ahead and treat themselves to this hidden gem. The other two entries in the series, Eschalon: Book II and III, also received a permanent price drop - on top of that, they are 60% off for the duration of this sale.

This is also the perfect opportunity to discover or perhaps revisit several paragons of the isometric-RPG genre, like Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and its recent expansion Siege of Dragonspear, the revitalized Shadowrun series, and Wasteland 2 Director's Cut, among others.

Celebrate your love for RPGs with a free copy of Eschalon: Book I and a grand Sale featuring a selection of celebrated games, going for up to -80%.

The RPG Sale will last until March 5, 8AM UTC.
Let's pop this sale in the forum as well, for those that want an RPG other than TToN.
Cheers for the gift GOG! :)
Also, Shadowrun games (all three of them) are highly recommended to all cRPG fans; hope we'll see more entries to the series soon!

Thanks for the freebie GOG ! It's the best way to try the Eschalon serie.
Nice to see something for free. And permanent price drops are always welcome :D
Geez, will Beamdog ever go for deeper discounts on SoD around here?

It's a shame that they choose the one game in the Eschalon series that *doesn't* let you play as a female character to make free. What's even worse is that there is a gender spot on the character creation screen that it looks like you should be able to change, but when you try to do so you get some BS about the story needing the main character to be male.

(There's also the fact that the entire series has some ugly character growth mechanics, but that's a different issue and would require a technical discussion about said system.)

I don't quite understand the '24 h head-start'. Is it free forever from now on or only free for the next 24 hour?

Could be it'll also be free on Steam.
I usually prefer RPGs that play with a party, so I didn't buy Eschalon before. But I guess now it's free I'll give the series a try. Thanks! :-)

Also thinking hard if I should give other games from the sale a try too, but I usually have the "Too much text" problem in games of this genre.
Anyone have reccomendations for someone who has never played a Spiderweb developed game where to start?Or if you had to pick 2 , which one would you get?

"Shame".. do you hate males so much that you can't even appreciate a nice freebie?
They simply offered their first game in the series, it's not like they purposely selected a male-only title.

Well, the Shadowrun games are rather meh. Nice story, nice combat and interesting Skill system, but they lack everything else a godd RPG needs. No loot and they have very bad healing mechanics. But the story is nice, at least in the 2nd and 3rd game.
