tfishell: Nice. :) I hope Nier Automata is still on the way.
+1. It's good to see games from both the Mana and Star Ocean series here, but NieR: Automata is the one that would really excite me. GOG and Square Enix need to stop messing around and release it already.
Great looking releases.

Early to ask since people would have just started playing them here, but I'm curious about performance if anyone can end up shedding any light.

Star Ocean The Second Story R system requirements for graphics lists:
Minimum: AMD Radeon™ RX 460 / Intel® Arc™ A380 / NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 750 Ti
Recommended: AMD Radeon™ RX 470 / Intel® Arc™ A750 / NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650

If anyone buys this game and is playing with a card closer to the "Required" ones than the "Recommended", could you please let me/others here know how well (or not?) it runs on the lower end?

I think this thread might not be being marked as updated on the forum.

Edit: yeah it doesn't go back to the top of the first page

It might be being saved for GOG's anniversary. Hopefully it actually does show up.

Well, on the bright side, saves me some money.

I'm not getting Second Story without First Departure here any more than I was before I left Steam, so that's out.

Divine Force may be "Windows 11 Verified!" but Microslop is done in my book because of Windows 11 and Divine Force was a jittery mess on hardware over the recommended specs running with GE Proton on Linux. The fact that there's already a review up stating the same thing is happening with the GOG version means this is a no sale release.
Without the pre-order DLC I'm not wasting money buying these games.

This is one of these things I really hate with the GOG staff. They don't come out clean with their releases, a simple "Sorry we're unable to bring the pre-order items to our store" would go a long way. No instead, let's not mention anything and hope the customers/sheep will buy the game.

Same thing happened with the new Indiana Jones games which I haven't bought yet again due to pre-order content.

Thanks for nothing.
I am sorry for your displeasure, yet i still think those items are not that important at all if it comes to the endgame as i know no one that still is using those items when they would "need it the most"... this is just some startup-boost which has been made available so the gamers can throw more money at them.

However... i still think that GOG should ask Square Enix if they could make the preorder-content available on GOG because there are items involved that can not be made available in any legal way and if we want to fully preserve the entire game and all its content, then even the bunch of missing items should be included.

Sure, a simple mod could "enable" it, but the modders usually stay away from it as it is simply not legal, just how the cookie crumbles. Some of them may argue "but you can not BUY it anymore, so there is nothing that can be stolen"... which indeed got a lot of truth inside. A gamer should deserve a FULL game, yet their own behavior of throwing away a huge amount of money toward the publisher for "removed content that will be included after" is driving this whole clearly customer-hostile practice. Everyone got some guilt here... as we all are driving this practice together... as it simply seems to work.

Personally, i was buying both games on a BD on PS5 DAY ONE with PREORDER and i never got any of the preorder content there, anyway... because i was not buying it in a digital-only-way... so i have been "punished". I am used to this sort of treatment. It is one of many reasons "why and how BDs slowly has been wiped from the market". It is not a coincidence... the majority of the industry was constantly trying to "blame" BD buyers and was mostly handing out bad treatment; BD buyers just in most cases "barely has been accepted".

Needless to say... for those really low on money... they could now buy the BD of "Divine Force" for around 16 CHF, which is cheaper than any digital price i know of. Such options will be completely removed soon... so, nope, not having options will make the games over time MORE expensive for everyone, not less expensive. Yet, most gamers fail to see its long term effects and are not sufficiently concerned with this industry-forced development.

i mean, I still have Second Story (not R) on PSP. Sure, I'll never be able to play it... but I have it. I'll never get rid of it, much like the Age of Empires 2 DVD I have alongside it. Yes, I will buy this without a second thought.
Crying over pre-order items that become outdated after 30 minutes of gameplay or break the balance is a GOG custom, it's pointless to try to convince people they're essentially worthless/not worth boycotting a release ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Those are the Star Ocean the Second Story R "Preorder items", i can not find any other items as there is no Deluxe-Version:

Sunrise Ring
Set of recovery items
Forest Knuckles
Pangalactic Federation Longsword

Note: Sunrise Ring can be crafted using Opera. Recovery items are craftable too. Leaving only 2 starter-weapons to be unable to obtain. In the mid- to endgame the 2 weapons will become useless.

Those are the Star Ocean The Divine Force "Preorder items":

Playing Piece / Accessory: Lenneth
Playing Piece / Accessory: Lezard
Playing Piece / Accessory: Jack
Playing Piece / Accessory: Ridley
Lionheart's Blutgang
Flashing Naglering

Note: The 2 starter-weapons are only useful in the beginning. The accessories may become useful pretty far into the game, although NO use for endgame.

Hikage_XjS: What about The Last Hope HD
avatar
tfishell: Still has Denuvo on Steam, strangely, despite being the oldest Star Ocean on Steam afaik.
I remember reading some time ago that older versions of Denuvo had a one time payment fee only while more recent ones require recurrent payments.

Since Last Hope HD was released in late 2017 i'd guess it's the older denuvo.
I feel like getting the Tokyo RPG Factory games now are a lock.

I hope we get Voice Of Cards trilogy that could be paired with the NieR releases.

Also I would love the Paranormasight series.

I'm running it on AMD Ryzen 7 5700G APU with integrated Vega 8 graphics core, which should be below RX 460's raw performance on paper despite being newer, and it's working well in 1080p and on ultra. Framerate is mostly smooth in towns battles and dungeons, can get much choppier in the field even with the 30 fps limiter enabled (especially when traversing quickly with the Bunny). I'm running it under Linux using Wine (not Proton), though.

Steam has a free demo available, maybe you could test it?

mrkgnao: Why is STAR OCEAN THE DIVINE FORCE labelled a "Good Old Game"? It was released in 2022.
From what i understand, there is no exact timeline in which GOG may make their preservation-program valid for any given game; yet it is safe to say "the game is certainly out of active development"; which is the case on the Star Ocean-games... even bug-fixes are already done.

In the end GOG does pick the games they want to put into this program themself without very specific terms, so it is possible that a 3-4 year old game is able to become part of it.

Additionally the Patrons may have a say on additional games for being put into the preservation program, which i am not "part of it" so i can not say much about.
