Anyone been able to get Jade Empire running in Wine?
avatar
king_mosiah: Anyone been able to get Jade Empire running in Wine?
I hadn't tried, but I have now :p Although I haven't had time to do much more than download it & get it running (however it does seem to run very well from the few minutes of it I've played so far)

Game: Jade Empire Special Edition
Installer MD5s:
9fbfbc9b047288ebcbac9551a5f27ae8 setup_jade_empire_2.0.0.4-1.bin
94af70b645c525b7263258c91d95cd92 setup_jade_empire_2.0.0.4-2.bin
3efd05ca48fc9d2dfe79b2fab2456df0 setup_jade_empire_2.0.0.4-3.bin
a480e87364cc8ab2a519c1f09a2da2c9 setup_jade_empire_2.0.0.4-4.bin
081042ad8561b599add7b2f366cf3da8 setup_jade_empire_2.0.0.4-5.bin
8f9db8c43a9cab6cd00de3d6e69fbda5 setup_jade_empire_2.0.0.4.exe
WineHQ AppDB link: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=4978
CodeWeavers link: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/jade-empire

Distro: Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64bit
Kernel version: 3.19.0-47
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 361.18
Wine version(s) tested: Wine 1.9.2 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.0.1

Install notes: Mostly a case of "install & run".
When the installer asks if you want to install DirectX, click no.
If using CrossOver, disable "Performance Enhanced Graphics" (aka CSMT)
If using PlayOnLinux, run the game from/create a shortcut for "Jade Empire.lnk"
I recommend against enabling virtual desktop - if virtual desktop is enabled then MouseWarpOverride will need to be set to "force" (and with this set you will need to navigate the menus using the keyboard)
How well does it run: Seems to run very well
Details: Have only briefly tested it but there were no obvious problems. If using a Wine version with CSMT (e.g. Staging or CrossOver), CSMT *must* be disabled or the game will stutter.

Game: Magrunner: Dark Pulse
Installer MD5s:
b2ac2b4f6d03a0080b0420b57e1b6265 setup_magrunner_dark_pulse_2.1.0.9.bin
2861ed090e4029325e78c77018d0ace8 setup_magrunner_dark_pulse_2.1.0.9.exe
WineHQ AppDB link: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=16172
CodeWeavers link: https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/magrunner-dark-pulse

Distro: Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64bit
Kernel version: 3.19.0-58
Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 364.15
Wine version(s) tested: Wine Staging 1.9.5 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.1.0

Install notes: Just install & play, more or less.
If using PlayOnLinux, run the game from/create a shortcut for "Magrunner.exe"
I recommend against using emulate virtual desktop for this: if set, the game icon pops through.
How well does it run: Very well
Details: When I played through this before it ran almost perfectly and that still seems to be the case. Tested at 1920x1200 maxed out, with CSMT enabled. If virtual desktop is not enabled, the game will start minimised. If running the game with virtual desktop enabled, you must also set "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows".

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Debian Sid amd64
Kernel: 4.5.0-rc1amdgpu-pp+ x86_64
Card: AMD Radeon R9 380X
OpenGL Renderer: Gallium 0.4 on AMD TONGA (DRM 3.1.0, LLVM 3.7.1)

WINE version: 1.8
WINEHQ AppDB entry: https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=22375

bug: On some setups, the graphics will be full of artifacts as soon as something is moving on the screen. A simple work-around is to run the game with the '-no3d' switch.

Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 361.18
Wine version(s) tested: Wine 1.9.2 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.0.1

Install notes: Just install + run.
If using PlayOnLinux, run the game from/create a shortcut for "Star Trek - Starfleet Academy.lnk"
How well does it run: Very well from what little of it I've played so far
Details: Tested with virtual desktop enabled. I have not tested much (haven't even played this game before) and I only tested it with mouse+keyboard controls but it appears to run perfectly (or almost perfectly) from what I've seen so far.

Graphics card: Nvidia GeForce GTX 750Ti
Graphics driver & version: Proprietary 364.15
Wine version(s) tested: Wine Staging 1.9.5 via PlayOnLinux, CrossOver 15.1.0

Install notes: Requires dotnet40 (in CrossOver install "Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0") for the launcher to work
If using PlayOnLinux, run the game from/create a shortcut for "ROTTLauncher.exe"
I recommend against using emulate virtual desktop for this: if set, the game icon sometimes pops through.
How well does it run: Quite well (see below)
Details: Was getting around 30-40fps at 1920x1200 with most settings set to "ludicrous", with CSMT enabled. Didn't seem to be a major difference in framerates between the lowest & highest settings. If virtual desktop is not enabled, the game will start minimised. If running the game with virtual desktop enabled, you must also set "Automatically capture the mouse in full-screen windows".

Looks prettier that way. ;)
Don't suppose I could interest you in adding which installer files you used?

Oh, you have it on your ./play.it page. Is that new or did I not notice it before?

The file name has always been there, the MD5 sum is a recent addition ;)

Would you prefer that I add it to the posts I make here too?
Or is it enough to have the link to the ./play.it page for further infos?
How do I update wine?

Emachine9643: How do I update wine?
It depends on the distribution you’re using ;)
Most probably it’s already automatically updated with your other packages.
