Maybe I am the pessimist here for a change but I think GOG has made it pretty clear that they are not willing to approach Bethesda since they suggested theit customer who has no contract with Bethesda but with them to approach them theirselves. If you buy something from a store you don't have a contract with the manufacturer but with the store - everybody knows this - but GOG decided that they don't want to fulfill their obligations to their customers because they don't want to do anything that could put off their darling Bethesda.

I can understand licensing bullshit removing a product from sale, BUT I can never accept removing content from my account after purchase. That even includes goodies like the Scorn PDF.

After sale removal of content is tantamount to theft as far as I'm concerned. There should be protection in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening. We need a digital bill of rights.

Or is it because you are in Germany and you have a different contract than I have in United States? You do not have the part of the contract where they say they can remove features from GOG content, or do you have some part of the contract where they promise to provide the initial version you bought indefinitely?

Or when you say obligation do you mean that they should do a better job pressuring the publisher?

If a customer has any problem with a game they bought at GOG it is up to GOG to settle this with their partner and/or their customer. Sending the customer directly to the publsiher legally is nonsense - that is what I wanted to say. I am quite (though not 100%) sure that this is not just the case in Germany.

I agree with you there. They should not have sent you to the publisher. I'm very sorry you lost so much grief but thanks to your post more people, including myself are aware of what can happen. And, I started reading terms of service of other stores, there are some very interesting (and concerning) things you will find in them.

I will still buy Doom 3 + RoE original if it shows up. But I certainly can't blame people for boycotting and whatnot.

If people actually followed through with Boycotting, most gaming companies would probably not pull this crap.

Personally I don't buy enough games for it to matter. There are maybe 8-12 titles I'm interested in (Serious Sam 2-3, DNF, Dead Island, etc.) and I do want to still support competition to Steam.

I'm sure some people from the now-locked thread are still boycotting GOG.

I honestly can't disagree, you're spot on.

If only, and it's not just about this kind of issue, there is pricing of AAA games and all sorts of other things.

But as has already been said, desire for something holds greater sway with many.

Hell, I am no doubt guilty myself at times, though I would certainly band together with boycotters if they were a significant enough number or likely to be. Other than that, I just see going that route as just penalizing myself currently. As long as I don't feel I have compromised my values, I just buy what I want when the price is right. And if anything, buying cheap at GOG isn't buying a Bethesda game elsewhere with DRM and perhaps more costly, so in a way I am also thumbing my nose a bit at Bethesda. Sure they get some of my money via GOG, but that's all they get, and I am sure they would like more than that, which is too bad for them, ain't gonna happen.

If only everyone who says that would actually make the step and see what happens... Otherwise, self-fulfilling prophecy, if not even those who (claim to) care act.
And yes, standing up for your values implies sacrifices. If you don't hold them at those times, and also in face of actual adversity, they're not values, they're hobbies. If even that.

If you are taking a dig at me and my values you are wasting your time, as I am always governed by logic.

I can sacrifice with the best of them, but it has to be logical to do so, otherwise the sacrifice is in vain, and in reality you are achieving the opposite of your intent.

I'm all prepared to be shining example to others, and help lead the way, but only if enough of those others are receptive to that, otherwise it is pointless to do so, and dare I say an ego feeding exercise, because all it is achieving is purely personal.

The problem is reputation. Bethesda's is shit now.

Although not as bad as Team 17 in terms of fallen giants.
