ConsulCaesar: I now realize, with the show being centered in Section 31, the scapegoat thing will probably happen all the time. Oh well, maybe we'll get to see how the Federation is truly ruled.
We know how it's truly ruled. I have no interest in Star Trek getting completley dragged trhough the mud and the Federation revealed to be some dictatorship or whatever your pet theory is (no offense, you have fun with whatever theory makes it fun for you).

ConsulCaesar: I think, more than deciding to make a Section 31 show, they wanted to give a show to Michelle Yeoh (she's obviously having a blast with Star Trek and I am having a blast whenever she's on screen),
Well, good for you. Me, I find her boring and with all the charisma of a blank wall.

ConsulCaesar: I think the "not dark and edgy" stuff will be covered by the Picard show.
I'm pretty sure this will be dark and gloomy as well, with Picard essentially getting the Last Jedi treatment. They already talked a lot about how he's going to be all different and not the Picard we know. He'll probably die at the end of the first season too.

None taken. It's just that there are some weird things that I noticed while watching TNG and DS9 that only make sense if the Federaton is a democracy in name only, ruled by the Starship Admirals (note that I only started watching these shows a few years ago, so I watched them with a different eye than those that have been fans for decades). But it's just my head canon, I would never expect it to become canon (I probably wouldn't want it to be official, either).

Hey Breja, did you watch William Shatner going into space earlier today?
So, now that this thread was dredged up from the depths of the sea, I have a few questions:

How did Lower Decks fare?

Is Janeway still not apologizing for ruining several lives?

Are the 80 year olds going to do their own stunts?

I read about it, but I didn't bother watching. I mean, it's sure cool for him, and I guess it's also nice to have a star of the orignal show stoking up some interest in space travel, but it's not really that super excitng to watch the whole thing. I'll wait for the Artemis missions ;)

Darvond: How did Lower Decks fare?
Well, it was apparently popular enough to get a second season, although I found it to be some of the most obnoxious, annoying, unfunny crap I've ever seen.

It's the best Star Trek... of those that were made in later years. I mean, it's still pretty dumb but at least doesn't try to crap on the established lore as much as Discovery or Picard.

I did watch it, and Shatner was moved to tears after it.
He also made a good Shatner speech, "life down here, death up there", I don't know if he made it up on the spot, but it was nicely theatrical.

It is actually going to third season now.

It has its moments, but the main problem is that it's Star Trek parodying Star Trek, and parodies shouldn't really be self-made. The biggest problem is that the writers obviously don't know what's actually funny.

In many cases they have a good, solid starting point, but the episode ends up going straight down the toilet afterwards. In some cases literally, as a lot of the humour is foul language, sex, cr@p in different forms, etc. so they really are setting the bar very low there.

I guess one of the funniest things is that they have made Pakleds the main adversary for the crew, and they seem to be very proud about how they resolve Pakled conflicts.
Of course, when there are things like a Pakled spy using holodeck as a toilet, it should be obvious how really low they are going there.
Quite a Shatner, Star Trek moving moment.
I was almost moved to tears myself.
So cool.
Lower Decks isn't that good but it's still better than Enterprise.

Agreed. A teary-eyed Shatner going into a semi-ramble that was part Grampa Simpson, part HP Lovecraft as Bezos diligently listens on for 7 minutes was more interesting than the live footage of the trip itself. The guy got legit emotional - in a way I've never seen him or ever expected to ever see him. And the "life down here, death up there" parts were literal cosmic horror. Sure, it could have been (partially) scripted, but that would've been one hell of a weird way to do a sales pitch for Bezos' pet project. And again, Shatner seemed so emotionally overwhelmed I can't imagine it was scripted. If any of that was acting, the guy deserves all the Oscars ever for that.

In any case, good for him! Didn't expect to ever see a 90 year old William Shatner get shot into space one day. "Get a life!" really takes on a whole new meaning after this.

I just watched it. I agree, it's a very nice moment and it's definitely not acting. It's too rambly and doesn't really sound like the kind of speech one would have rehearsed. It's a pity he couldn't take this trip together with Nimoy. That would have been just too perfect.

Sidenote: am I the only one who felt like strangling the idiots shrieking and giggling in the background? Shut the fuck up, Captain Kirk is talking! :D

DoomSooth: Lower Decks isn't that good but it's still better than Enterprise.
Lower decks is a dumpster fire and doesn't care about the lore or the franchise it's based on.
Hehe, precious! Bezo Boy lost a contract to SpaceX and now he did this stunt... marvelous. But yes, an amazing moment for Shatner.

That written, it only proves you don't have to be an extremely fit pilot/engineer to travel to space any longer.

Lower Decks? It's actually much much worse than Enterprise. Honestly, they all are (the new ones yes, not the old ones :P).

Yes. Star Wars is way better. "Let's just forget Luke's story, the last 40 years, and the original fans. We need to make a brand new trilogy and ruin that story, too."
