I get "The File could not be located in the installer's folder. Please make sure that the file is in the correct folder, or specify its current location"

I downloaded the original BG without issue, them moved on to BG 2 - 1st part prompts the above message. Any help would be appreciated !!

Question: How did you download the game? I'll assume that you did so directly through the browser and I'll also assume that you are talking about the normal versions of Baldur's Gate 1+2 and not the Enhanced ones. Anyway:

The first Baldur's Gate only has one installation file, but Baldur's Gate 2 has three installation files; one .exe and 2 .bin files. Make sure to download all three to the same folder, don't rename them and run only the *.exe one and Baldur's Gate 2 should install normally.

Thanks - download BG original via the web browser purchased from gog - do I have to look for the original game path created from the original install ? I have deleted everything and am currently re-downloading BG 1

The first Baldur's Gate only has one installation file and shouldn't have such an issue. At any rate, make sure that both games have the following files and sizes:

Baldurs' Gate - The Original Saga:
setup_baldurs_gate_2.0.0.20.exe (1.8 GB)

Baldur's Gate 2 Complete:
setup_baldurs_gate2_2.0.0.12.exe (1 MB)
setup_baldurs_gate2_2.0.0.12-1.bin (1.5 GB)
setup_baldurs_gate2_2.0.0.12-2.bin (0.8 GB)

For Baldur's Gate 2, ensure that all three aforementioned files are in the same folder and run setup_baldurs_gate2_2.0.0.12.exe to begin installation.

Make sure you downloaded all the necessary files - there should be at least one exe and maybe some bin files. Also check your AV has not removed/quarentined the files as there was a known issue with Windows Defender flagging it false postive:

I literally fixed this the easiest way possible
Follow this→
1)First note down the different file names of the exe files and bin files in a text document for backup
2)Next observe the names, the exe and bin files should all be named same, with the different bin files being numbered with -1 or -2 and so on
3)An example
Filename.exe
Filename-1.bin
Filename-2.bin
4)The above problem arises when they are named differently
***Make them all the same***
It will work after they are all the same and in the above scheme,
in my opinion you should change the name of the installer with the bin file names, with the -1 or -2 removed.

After
two years its so usefull!
I changed the names, and it's still not working. I'm so sad. I bought this game years ago and I was so happy to finally find a way to install it. Why is it not working???

Make sure that file name extensions are not hidden by Windows.
If that option is active, it could be that you accidentaly called your files xyz.exe.exe and xyz-1.bin.bin which obviously would not work.

Post a screenshot where all filenames can be seen.

The easiest way would be to redownload all files and NOT to change anything. Because the names are correct by default.
I got over 2000 games and all of them are named correctly - with one exception: The DLCs for one game had wrong names.

Fix for the error "The File could not be located in the installer's folder"

If you copied the game files and don't have the registry entries for the GOG game you can get an error if you want to install a DLC for the game.
The error says "The File could not be located in the installer's folder".

You can fix the problem and install the DLC by adding the registry entries for the game.

You need 2 registry entries for the game, in order for the DLC installer to find the Installed game.
And you need to get the "Product ID" for the game from the online GOG database, using a browser.

For Wasteland 3, for example :

You need 2 registry entries: "dependsOn" and "path" that are located inside:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GOG.com\Games\2057748185]
"dependsOn"=""
"path"="D:\\Games\\Wasteland 3"

2057748185 is the "Product ID" for Wasteland 3.

You can find this "Product ID" by browsing https://www.gogdb.org/products.
Find the game, open the game page and find the "Product ID" (Be Careful because Is Different from the "ID").

On the Wasteland 3 page (https://www.gogdb.org/product/2057748185) the Product ID is 2057748185.

Use this to create a .reg file with the path of the game on your drive.

the game_fix.reg file looks like this:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\GOG.com\Games\2057748185]
"dependsOn"=""
"path"="D:\\Games\\Wasteland 3"

The path of the Wasteland 3 game was in this case: D:\Games\Wasteland 3 .

After you add the registry entries from this file to the Windows registry, by double-clicking on it, you can install the DLC for the game.

I hope it helps.
