Dray2k: I go by the motto "in times of crisis your soul shows your true character". I will never succumb to this situation and I fight harder than ever before. Did a 41 hours work-shift during the weekend and it felt great :>! Psychology for the win.
A good motto, imo.

Also it's good to hear you're hanging in there....and I hope you continue to do so. :)

XzAr_79: So no politics, only updates about covid-19. I think it's fair.
Agreed, but imo mods need to step up and do a bit more work...i.e. prune posts and not just lock threads. I mean I dunno about anyone else, but making new threads every time mods see bad posts and decide to lock threads is a PITA sometimes. :|

XzAr_79: The truth is I'm starting to be scared not about covid-19 and its consequences on our health but about its impact on our general reprise of old life in the near (we hope) future.
Me too, tbh.

XzAr_79: Maybe it's only the isolation of these days, my loneliness, my negative thoughts, but I only need to relieve stress of these last weeks.
Play some games or watch some films/tv shows.....there's plenty online to choose from....and keep up your spirits/hopes/morale as best you can(imo it's one of our biggest weapons in fighting this).

Thanks for that. :)

kai2: None of us went to the doctor, but at the time we all thought the illness was strange and not like any flu we had prior.
Same here. That Saturday (it was like 1½ months ago or so IIRC) I just kept thinking that I am not feeling quite right but I couldn't really tell what was wrong, and I started even suspecting I've had a slight heart attack or something, due to the "odd feeling" in the chest and pain on my left shoulder (I keep hearing those stories that in a heart attack your left arm may feel numb etc., so naturally I always become alarmed if there is any pain on the left side of my body).

But then, I wasn't coughing or didn't feel trouble breathing, so not sure. But if the doctor said I seem to have pneumonia and even gave antibiotics for it, I guess that was the case then.

And, I have no idea how long it lasted. I thought I was already fully fine the next Wednesday or so, but then a week later I got e.g. a sore throat and a runny nose for one more week or two. Hard to say if they were about the same illness or separate cases, and whether they were related to corona at all.

In a way I would be a bit surprised if it was because back then there was only like one diagnosed corona case in Finland IIRC (the Chinese tourist some 900 km away from me), and I am not that social ie. not going to restaurants or big gatherings, quite much staying at home and even my workplace is in a remote place away from other people. So if I really contracted the virus from somewhere, it must have been in a supermarket where I buy groceries. But then, I would have expected lots of other people here would have had it at that point as well.

It is possible as you say, the virus was making rounds already before it became big news. Who knows, maybe it is currently at its second or third mutation round already?

Which is excellent, it could mean that we're already adepting to it and it too us as well.

Also any virus will quickly mutate, this virus does this as a huge rate. Ive heard that virologists predict that it will get way more infectious but less lethal over time.

The first documented case in China was in late Oct. 2019, so with air travel and the free movement of people, it's not hard to believe that it spread across many populations in the preceeding 2 - 3 months before international awareness grew. I feel pretty confident that if COVID-19 tests were ubiquitous prior to the declaration of a pandemic that we'd find the virus was moving through populations much earlier than we expected... Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb...

I'll say I was astounded to see that MANY, MANY of our friends had the exact same symptoms in January.

Aren't most viruses like that....i.e. they keep their host alive so they can spread and not run out of hosts/etc?

If so, and we are adapting to it, then hopefully this will end in a more positive light than some more dire predictions. :)
Talk about 1 and a half month ago i think that i also had fatigue which i could not recover right away and slime in my throat which only caused trouble breathing when sitting or standing.
One thing i though that caused fatigue must have been caused by work, visitng doctor and watching nephew and the only day i had really free was sunday. I felt normal on wednesday. The only way i got better is was sleeping more but that didn't help right away.
Nobody got the symptoms i had.
But i remember 2 years ago it was worse with that and it was making me vomit.
Mother said i shouldn't eat sweets mostly chocolate since that causes slime.

i had something in mid-late january. what felt like the deepest chest congestion in my life, general fatigue, and a nasty wheezy dry hack to go with it.

over the years i've gotten pretty good at mobilizng stuff that happens to be in my lungs, upward and out, no matter how congested. but that time was different. the effort required to force anything up was just too much. and if i was able to get anything up, it generally just looked like a bit of spit or clear muscus (sorry tmi). often when i would try to cough deeply it felt like my alveoli were simply flapping in the breeze. of over the course of 2-3 weeks the shortness of breath, cough, and mind fatigue subsided. i eventually was able to cough some stuff up, but not much, and i had a bit of a wheeze well into early march.

i never know though because i only go to the doctor when i've broken something or i think im dying.

Also milk/dairy as well, iirc....also I get that every morning or so, it seems(gotta clear throat).

kai2: My entire family got sick the first week of January...

... started with a sore throat...

... then...

... low-grade temperature (101 degrees)...

... body and back aches...

... stuffy head...

... post-nasal drip...

... worsening cough...

... chest congestion...

... throwing up (in my case).

None of us went to the doctor, but at the time we all thought the illness was strange and not like any flu we had prior. Also, it lasted a very long time; I still had a cough one month later.

My brother on the other side of the country (NY) is currently having the same symptoms. Have also talked to many friends who had the same between January and February.

Completely anecdotal, but...

... it does seem likely this virus spread long before we were aware of the COVID-19 outbreak moving beyond China.
Aren't cough and 38.3 degrees body temperature only symptoms of Corona? Speaking about your list.

Some think now that Corona/Covid started before all this with prior strains, which then mutated to where they are at now....if that's true the symptoms could've been different in prior strains(dunno for sure, though....i'm no scientist).

Also to all: Norad/Cheyenne Mountain is now supposedly being staffed with personnel and isolated.....more info in attached pic.

(though as always, make sure to do further research on anything posted).

We'll try this again. The forum rules are still in effect; don't be surprised if posts get moderated, and while I'm aiming to be even-handed, it may not feel like it on the receiving end. In case it is helpful, here's my post from the previous thread.

If the number of violations makes moderating the thread too big a time sink, it will be locked. As much as I might wish otherwise sometimes, my time is not infinite.

People think many weird things on the internet.

Funnily enough, I *was* sick in the last couple of weeks of January, it was typical virus infections symptoms for me (sore throat, relatively high body temperate etc.) but before that I had huge trouble with breathing for couple of days. It passed relatively quickly, but it was very weird for me.

Fair enough(and thank you for being fair on this matter/new thread).....question though: Can't someone bump this up to someone(even above lower level site mods) that can make a call to maybe give an exception in this case(like with the gaming politics exception.....i.e. as long as what is discussed is about the covid situation)?

To me that would seem more efficient/time saving for you and the other CM/other staff, and allow you all to focus on more severe site rule violations and problems.

True.....still, it is something to think about/contemplate.

Well at least you're healthy now, right? If so and it was an early form of covid, maybe you'll be lucky and be able to ride this out relatively unscathed.

(Though of course, we should all be very careful and take the proper precautions regardless, I think)
