Has been causing a storm online. Pretty sure you guys know the dress by now. So what colours do you see? I'm seeing blue black.

For those who don't:
http://www.buzzfeed.com/catesish/help-am-i-going-insane-its-definitely-blue#.veqA3WmVj
That's pretty funny. To me it looks white and gold. I could see how the white might be perceived as blue, but there's no way I can personally view the gold as black.
I'd say it's light blue and gold. But the person who took the pictures should be forced to take some basic photography lessons. Sources of strong light right behind photographed object? Really? E: I mean, I think it really affects perception of colours, and we're asked to determine what the colours actually are.

When I first looked at it, I said white and gold and my wife said (pale) blue and light brown.

Then I switched to another monitor and saw the blue and black right away. Granted, "black" only because you can tell that's what it would be if the picture was better.

Hours later, still on the second monitor, I clicked the link in the OP and saw white and gold again... but a minute later, I went back and saw it as blue and black.

Obviously I'm tired. Good night.

Yes you are. I only see blue and black on both phone and laptop, no matter how I see it :)

Same here. White and gold, tho the white is somewhat shadowed and could be a very light blue or purple. Don't see how the gold could be taken for black at all.
Some explanation from a post from GAF:
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1000262&page=6

"Your eyes have retinas, the things that let you interpret color. There’s rods, round things, and cones that stick out, which is what gives your eye a textured appearance in the colored part. The “cones” see color. The “rods” see shade, like black, white and grey. Cones only work when enough light passes through. So while I see the fabric as white, someone else may see it as blue because my cones aren’t responding to the dim lighting. My rods see it as a shade (white). There’s three cones, small, medium and large. They are blue sensitive, green sensitive, and red sensitive.
As for the black bit (which I see as gold), it’s called additive mixing. Blue, green and red are the main colors for additive mixing. This is where it gets really tricky. Subtractive mixing, such as with paint, means the more colors you add the murkier it gets until it’s black. ADDITIVE mixing, when you add the three colors eyes see best, red, green and blue, (not to be confused with primary colors red, blue and yellow) it makes pure white.

—Blue and Black: In conclusion, your retina’s cones are more high functioning, and this results in your eyes doing subtractive mixing.

—White and Gold: our eyes don’t work well in dim light so our retinas rods see white, and this makes them less light sensitive, causing additive mixing, (that of green and red), to make gold.

**** UPDATE to prove this theory I turned my phone brightness from the lowest to highest and saw it switching from white and gold (at the lowest) to light blue and darker gold (at the highest) meaning people that see blue and black are more sensitive to light (better eyesight and not looking at the sun like your moms told you)

**Also if you see white and gold sometimes, blue and black another, or a combination of the two, your eyes are very average, and it could change because of YOUR rooms lighting or the tilt of your phone. This is the same manipulation they use for optical illusions"

So blue black eyes are special :D

Hah, my eyes are shit so I guess that explains some of it. :P At any rate, I am at least confident in saying that I think the dress is ugly, if nothing else. :P

I still can't wrap my head around an idea that somebody could see one of these colours as white or black. :P

Actually, seeing it like that makes it appear much more black to me.

No idea about how they see the gold as black. The retina explanation baffles me when it comes to that issue. How can my poorer eyesight perceive the colour while people with better eyes see darkness....

The dress does have blueish tint. I just assumed that it was caused by shadows. No way it looks dark blue like in that other picture.

Maybe I'm just bad at picking colours and my picture isn't accurate . ;) But I believe that actual colours of the dress are uniform, so darker areas are darker only because of poor lighting, not because they're actually dark.
I see gold and a light Blue/purple-ish colour.

Is there something wrong with me?
You can tell me the truth doctor.
I can take it.

No, simply the average user has monitors set to very high (wrong) brightness and contrast levels :P

Btw that photo is terrible, with bright light behind, maybe with a strong flash, or with other colored sources around, so who knows exactly (and a bit who cares anyway lol).
