myconv: Fine fine. Just your reply to me was so aggressive that I suppose I got a bit defensive. I apologize.
That previous reply was by me - just a random nobody who was trying to be helpful by gently nudging you toward understanding how this community does things - not by adamhm (who is running this giveaway, and who responded to your response to me)
I wouldn't describe my reply as overly aggressive, though yes, it was rather to the point, as I believe that your first post in this thread was rather rude. Since you seem to have perceived it as more aggressive than was my intent, you have my apologies for that.
myconv: Is there only so much of each title available? What do you do if a winner doesn't have any of the available titles in their list?
Each title is available exactly once. The first winner gets their top pick. Each subsequent winner gets their top pick which is still available. If none of their picks are still available, they're simply skipped (so you wouldn't call them a "winner" anymore), and the next winner is drawn. Once all the games have found a home (excluding games which no one wants), the giveaway is over.
myconv: That's unfair. As a careful buyer one has to read many reviews and read between the lines. It seems like games have stopped producing demos, and on Linux I doubt any demos released would work anyway.
Lets say there was a contest where the winner was given one free meal. But the menu was of foods most people haven't heard of. You had to pick 10 food items you've never had and got no idea how they taste, for the chance to win even one.
That's for me what I've loved most about giveaways like these. It's a curated sampling of just a handful of games to look at, from out of the thousands that gog has available. Generally the person running the giveaway has chosen the games with care, because they personally believe these games are exceptionally good or worth playing. So researching the games on offer is a great way to become familiar with the very best gog has to offer. And generally it's easy enough to see when a game doesn't meet your criteria and move on to the next game. The criteria of this particular giveaway also state "Please only enter for games that you're interested in, intend to play & won't just let rot in a backlog." - so if you're uncertain about a game, then just don't list it. (In the words of your analogy - you're not required to pick any food items at all; just peruse the limited menu and only pick the ones that definitely sound good to you.)
myconv: Plus don't you need to have registered with GoG before a certain time? Something like that was mentioned in the last thread and I never got a clear answer.
Each giveaway has different criteria, determined by the generous person who runs it. If there's a requirement for a specific registration date, it'll be clearly listed in the first post. Since this thread doesn't have such a requirement listed, it's not there.
You, btw, did get a very clear answer in
bjgamer's giveaway which you're probably referring to.
myconv: Id rather have a few titles I love and can put in hordes of hours on then a collection of meh.
That's an admirable sentiment; see my response to the food analogy above.
