gogtrial34987: imagine just how much hassle and extra communication there would be (if they asked the winners what they wanted after and not before)
Zero extra hassle. One extra PM per winner that asks. So they need to notify the winners that they won. They simply tell them they won, and if their first choice isn't available or they ask as I have to choose upon winning, either way they simply point to the thread and ask them to make their selection. So the extra hassle and communication would consist of notification of winning, to say that's unreasonable is what is really unreasonable.

Instead of lecturing me and getting down on me, be in my shoes, it could take me hours to pick out which games I want even though I can only get 1, only to have that time wasted because I didn't win anyway. So moments time for them to notify me first and wait for my response or hours of my time for something that might not even happen. I think it's very very very reasonable.

So please back off.

It is a *lot* of extra hassle. Instead of simply going down the winner list selecting the top available pick for each entrant and giving them the key for that, I'd have to ask them what they want, wait for them to respond (which could take a day or two due to differing time zones, people's schedules etc), then give them the key they want (if there's anything left that they want) and repeat for the next person, potentially for every entrant on the list. The last part of the giveaway had almost 60 entrants; imagine having to do all that 60 times!

This would mean that instead of getting the keys distributed in 20-30min it could easily take over a month waiting on everyone one at a time to give out keys if I gave everyone just 24 hours to respond.

Furthermore, if keys have to be distributed one at a time that means that everyone who entered will have to keep frequently checking back waiting for their turn to see if they won anything, or risk missing out by not being here when it gets to their turn.

Why even bother entering at all, since you clearly don't have enough interest in any of the games here to know anything about them already, otherwise it wouldn't be such an apparently arduous and time consuming task to decide which ones interest you.
Another giveaway? I didn't even notice this before somehow!

Good luck to everyone!

EDIT: Upon some consideration, I think I shouldn't participate after all. Still, big thanks to adamhm for his generous giveaways!

Fine fine. Just your reply to me was so aggressive that I suppose I got a bit defensive. I apologize.

Is there only so much of each title available? What do you do if a winner doesn't have any of the available titles in their list?

That's unfair. As a careful buyer one has to read many reviews and read between the lines. It seems like games have stopped producing demos, and on Linux I doubt any demos released would work anyway.

Lets say there was a contest where the winner was given one free meal. But the menu was of foods most people haven't heard of. You had to pick 10 food items you've never had and got no idea how they taste, for the chance to win even one.

Plus don't you need to have registered with GoG before a certain time? Something like that was mentioned in the last thread and I never got a clear answer. So that's picking out not only before I know whether I've won, but whether I'm even qualified to participate.

I love all sorts of games. Gaming is the hobby that consumes most of my time. But there are a crazy amount of games out there. Id rather have a few titles I love and can put in hordes of hours on then a collection of meh. It's your rough statement of what you want from the participants too, them to get games they will enjoy and appreciate. So please don't judge me so harshly. I am just a excessively careful person in all sorts of ways, maybe a bit OCD in that way. I tend to be thorough in everything I put my mind to.

Fine, I'll pick out some titles and edit them into my previous post. Am I correct that the list is gathered on the final day?

Would you please tell me if I am a qualifying entry though? Whether my signing up for gog in November or your anger at my wanting to pick out the games only after winning disqualifies me.

While it is disappointing to possibly spend hours agonizing over what you want only to not get anything, the OP did state pretty clearly how they are going to run this. Saying you can't be bothered to spend that time and they should do it differently sounds very uncouth.
Thank you adamhm for your generosity and another amazing giveaway!
Not in this time, but thanks once again for your previous gifts for me :)

That previous reply was by me - just a random nobody who was trying to be helpful by gently nudging you toward understanding how this community does things - not by adamhm (who is running this giveaway, and who responded to your response to me)
I wouldn't describe my reply as overly aggressive, though yes, it was rather to the point, as I believe that your first post in this thread was rather rude. Since you seem to have perceived it as more aggressive than was my intent, you have my apologies for that.

myconv: Is there only so much of each title available? What do you do if a winner doesn't have any of the available titles in their list?
Each title is available exactly once. The first winner gets their top pick. Each subsequent winner gets their top pick which is still available. If none of their picks are still available, they're simply skipped (so you wouldn't call them a "winner" anymore), and the next winner is drawn. Once all the games have found a home (excluding games which no one wants), the giveaway is over.

That's for me what I've loved most about giveaways like these. It's a curated sampling of just a handful of games to look at, from out of the thousands that gog has available. Generally the person running the giveaway has chosen the games with care, because they personally believe these games are exceptionally good or worth playing. So researching the games on offer is a great way to become familiar with the very best gog has to offer. And generally it's easy enough to see when a game doesn't meet your criteria and move on to the next game. The criteria of this particular giveaway also state "Please only enter for games that you're interested in, intend to play & won't just let rot in a backlog." - so if you're uncertain about a game, then just don't list it. (In the words of your analogy - you're not required to pick any food items at all; just peruse the limited menu and only pick the ones that definitely sound good to you.)

myconv: Plus don't you need to have registered with GoG before a certain time? Something like that was mentioned in the last thread and I never got a clear answer.
Each giveaway has different criteria, determined by the generous person who runs it. If there's a requirement for a specific registration date, it'll be clearly listed in the first post. Since this thread doesn't have such a requirement listed, it's not there.
You, btw, did get a very clear answer in bjgamer's giveaway which you're probably referring to.

That's an admirable sentiment; see my response to the food analogy above.

Thank you again, adamhm, for helping introduce the wife and I to the world of Linux gaming. :) We continue to be happily surprised at the number and variety of games that work well with Linux, and the variety of ways they can be made to do so. Thank you also for reminding us and giving links in previous giveaways to encourage developers to consider Linux a viable option for their games. Perhaps most of all, thank you for your continuing dedication to Linux gaming on GOG, the encouragement and education you sponsor within these giveaways, and the time and work you put into your wrappers to help make it easier for all of us.

Please put me in for:

1) Hollow Knight
2) Victor Vran
