"Re-Logic and Engine Software have combined forces to develop the next progression in the open world/sandbox arena: Terraria: Otherworld.

Expanding upon the immensely popular action-sandbox title Terraria, exploring what might have been, and approaching gameplay in a new direction; Terraria: Otherworld represents a novel take on the Terraria experience.

Set in an alternate dimension within the Terraria universe, Terraria: Otherworld places the player in a life-and-death struggle to restore a once-pristine world – now overrun by a malevolent force that has corrupted nature itself – to its original splendor.

Combining elements of sandbox gameplay with role-playing and strategy elements, Terraria: Otherworld explores the Terraria experience in an innovative and unique way - providing a fresh approach to the “open world” genre."

I'm not completely sure what platforms this is for, or how different it is from the original, but color me intrigued.

Screw that, where the hell is 1.3?
Wow, sounds interesting for sure. I love Terraria but I got bored of it after a while. Hopefully this will be good and the RPG elements will keep me hooked. And I agree with tinyE, where's the 1.3 update haha.

Thanks for sharing
Let's hope we won't have to wait some years until it gets released on GOG like the first Terraria. And yeah, nice question, where's the 1.3?
Sounds great but way too long before I care about this, I'm going to wait just like I did with Terraria even after release. And I agree, where the hell is 1.3?
Expansion or "Terraria 2"?
Should I just go ahead and play Terraria or wait for this mysterious 1.3?

Hard to say. They mentioned that it would be released before new year (possibly) sometime in autumn 2014 but since it is this late it could arrive anytime or be post-poned for as long as they need.

Suffice to say, they won't say anything regarding release date because apparently they were late with 1.2 or 1.1 as well and then a bunch of people whined a lot on the forums because they had promised a date.

If you have never played it and have at least one game to play (or just have great patience in general) I would wait, otherwise 1.2 is good enough and it will probably take more time to figure it all out (if you don't use any external help) before 1.3 arrives.

This game is way too addictive.

The Lucas Arts stuff is the only reason I took a break from it. Well that and it becomes frustratingly insanely hard once you kill the Wall of Flesh.

I've been trying to get into Terraria this past week, and... It's not working. The controls seem really awkward, there aren't any explanations of how to do anything, and nothing ever seems to happen.

Should I just go watch some Let's Plays of it or something?

In the beginning one could say it's more of a sandbox and you have to "activate" all the stuff on your own. You could watch a tutorial let's play that will present the basics but I would stop after that to avoid spoilers.

If I could just learn how to build a wall that isn't just background, preferably with a door in it, I'd feel like I'd accomplished something worthwhile :-\

That was my problem when I first started. There are several short YouTube tutorials on basic construction; check out one of those.
Damn, got a bit hyped thinking it was related to Terraria 2, but it's just a spin off. Ah well.
