The Witcher (2007)

I config this game on low settings because his optimization for integrated graphics are not so great (doens't use all cpu cores), but this water is still beatiful, astonishing even in 800x600 resolution

There are some locations in Witcher that looks really good even on low graphic settings, the one i liked the most visually was i think the 4th chapter, after your adventure moves you outside of Vizima

Back to Metro 2033

Artyom, to follow up on his promise to Hunter, decide to take a trip to the next station .
And it was far from a peaceful one first some strange psychic assault let everyone unconscious, then a damned pack of Nosalis attacked the group.

With some heavy luck and help from the station defenders, everyone managed to survive the onslaught and took some time to rest at the station pub.

At 800 x 600, huh? That's the nice thing about games from that era. They can run even at 1080p on today's integrated graphics. F'instance, I can run Skyrim on my Intel Core i5 11400 with Intel UHD Graphics 730 at 720p. But I now have a GeForce 1050 Ti.

At your screen 04 is about where I gave up on Metro 2033. The bots are so over powered, and the weapons so lame, it became frustrating being killed over and over. Good for you to be able to get past it!

Its an incredibly immersive and atmospheric horror game that I can recommend if you love a good atmosphere.
I will definitly be replaying this again in the future.

I have been wanting to play the Shadowrun games for literally years as I love sci fi and isometric games, so seeing it mentioned here now made me bump it to the forefront of my backlog:)

hmm i completed Metro 2033 Redux 2 times already in the past, it's really good.

i didn't noticed really overpowered bots you're mentionning, maybe you're talking about the original Metro 2033, as the Redux version i didn't noticed anything being too resilient (out of the Librarians, those are fearsome opponents if you try to attack them instead of avoiding)

some monsters are strong and may require more careful aiming to maximise damage (usually aim for the head will take down nearly everything that is not a Librarian rather fast, like the shotgun on the Nosalis monsters in the section of my screenshot , 1 shotgun shell to the face is 1 kill)
For most normal human enemies in the game you'll be able to 1 shot kill with a pistol bullet to the head while sneaking

There are some sections that aren't easy but with some patience and trying to not shoot randomly to not waste bullets (military grade ammo is precious as they're used as money, but if you use them instead of the more plentiful garbage ammo it will damage highly anything) it's doable.

Right off, the screens look exactly like what horror fanboys want!

Good you're able to handle it with a methodical strategy. On the other hand, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat was fun and I completed it twice even though it's considered to be light horror and horror isn't my normal genre even if it's in first person. We will watch how you go through Metro 2033.

Metro 2033 Redux

After reaching the Riga station and taking some rest, Artyom decided it was time to move, his goal was still so far away.
Meeting a traveller named Bourbon that was interested by his weird ability to resist the mental attacks, Artyom got a work to escort this guy on feet through some dangerous tunnel system.

After taking out some bandit camp that was waiting to ambush some unfortunate merchants, the team ran into more nosalis nests, they escaped thanks to some good amount of bullets.

But monsters and mutants aren't the only threat, the metro features some strange places in which nothing seems to be what you see, Artyom resistance to mental assault helped the group to move through, but there was a feeling something was helping.

After some more tunnels crossing, Artyom and Bourbon finally reached the Market station entrance.
More nosalis attacked there before the station defenders could help clear the area.

An excellent linear FPS that GOG would do well to obtain. James Bond 007 Quantum of Solace.

Metro 2033 Redux

After finally managing to get accepted into the Market station, that belong to the Hansa faction (a merchant/trading alliance supposed to be the most powerful faction) , it was clear that Bourbon had some unresolved issues from past misdeeds.

But still Artyom and Bourbon were blocked in the station and denied access to the tunnels to resume their travel.
Bourbon fortunately managed to strike a deal with some guards to get access to another type of exit : the surface.

The duo had to run through that exit before the guards opened fire because apparently Bourbon "deal" was a fake and the guards figured it out.

What remains of Moscow is a grim place now , full of radiation, poisonned atmosphere and filled with various kind of monsters and dangers .
That along some ghostly visions of the pre-apocalypse time ... but it's the only way Artyom and Bourbon could get around the Hansa blocus, assuming they stay alive.

Metro 2033 Redux

Artyom is still stuck in the Dead City , exploring the ruined Moscow in the hope to get to back with Bourbon to escape that hell

Spotting a Dark One (was it the same he already saw in the tunnels ? ) that seemed to be monitoring him, Artyom recieve visions of the past pre-apocalypse time. Maybe the Dark One is trying to tell him something, strange creatures those ones.

The Tihar weapon Artyom acquired recently is an excellent pneumatic gun, great for silent kills, it was extremely useful to take out a bunch of Lurkers without alerting a horde of dozen more of them.

But Lurkers while a serious threat in numbers aren't the top of the food chain, that's the Demon that seems to be it, massive flying predator that like to catch you and fly around to dump you somewhere, along with tearing you apart with its claws.

They' re not unkillable, but those flying horrors takes a lot of ammo to take down, it's much better to avoid them and run into cover to get out of their hunting grounds.

Fortunately Artyom collected enough gaz mask filters to finally find Bourbon without dying from the poisoned air of the surface. But to get back to the Metro it was a rather big fight as we ran through a Lurker territory, but good news is that the duo was now close to the Dry station, the goal of Bourbon.

Artyom was happy as he survived and was going to be paid soon for the job, all while getting himself closer to his travelling goal.

Way things are going, we might see the events of Metro 2033 for real by 2033!
I sure hope things will get better

Metro 2033 Redux

So Bourbon just told Artyom that in fact Dry Station is basically a big bandit camp, so the dynamic duo would have to sneak in and out once Bourbon would have done his business there.

After sneaking in, Bourbon stupidly got himself captured and sent to the bandit leader for interrogation.
Artyom managed to stay hidden and avoid detection.

Sneaking deeper into the station in order to see if he could rescue Bourbon, Artyom to the surprise of everyone revealed himself as being probably a ninja : moving undetected in the shadows like good old Garrett from the Thief series, though instead of knocking out people with a blackjack, Artyom went stealth stabbing most of the bandits (i guess he played too much of Lala Craft adventure games) and stealth headshotting with his silenced pistol the ones that were out of reach.

After reaching the bandit leader, unfortunate events left Artyom with no choice but move away alone, or so he thought ... as he met a strange man calling himself Khan that would be his guide for a while in the tunnels.
