.erercott: Another valiant effort unto breach...

Despite my overwhelming sensation of success, I failed once more to deliver the package and defeat the final level of FTL.
Even on easy mode.

I journeyed with a hefty sum of scrap throughout my campaign.
Made many allies with newer and newer crewmates almost at each stop.

As soon as I had enough scrap I upgraded my shields the highest amount and boosted the energy in my ship and still I was met with
hordes of enemies boarding the ship while taking gunfire damage.

Relentless waves of attacks-the number of crew members didn't matter after a while. Even the shields did little to stop the onslaught of enemy
invasions.

Prior to my death I made a plan to play it safer and avoid conflict-yet I was unable to deflect the enemy's visceral attack schemes.

It was still on easy and I have had closer calls. I don't know how to get better at this game, as in this case I had to reset three times before getting a good flow.

It's quite the spectacle to see my efficient gameplay turn upside its head.

I tried again. I really did this time but I'm met with the empty void of space. The shrapnel of my vessel scattered in the echoes of space.
Leaving a far bigger imprint in my life than it did in the galaxy it lived on.

I myself will remember this moment in the event of a future victory.
So FTL is a rogelike, in that you play, are beaten, then you use earned XP to upgrade your ship. That's the game loop I know very well from Immortal Redneck. Such games can be highly addictive.

True, it is a great deal addictive.
But in my grief I booted up The Day of the Tentacle and managed to beat it.

which was a welcome change of pace from the tight action sequences of FTL.

I enjoyed the many escapades and sly remarks and witty writing the game had to offer.

But out of all my experiences with Lucasarts games this had to have been the most challenging.

Still, the characters are fairly memorable and the story is compelling enough to push through.

It turned my frown upside down.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

Lala craft knew it, there was another grotto filled with ancient stuff in the region, it seems Peru is full of caves absolutely everywhere with underground hidden stuff. Perfect time for tomb raiding and tomb burning !

After carefully doing some stunts (looks like the ancient people really were very bad engineers when it came to build roads) to reach places, it became clear Lala was not alone, those whispers in the dark she could hear reminded her of something.

The Yaaxil !
"Oh great ! more Gollums !" Lala thought while entering an immense underground section with a gigantic tree that in some myth are called world tree, tree of life etc... , but while the awe inspiring underground giant tree was there, Lala was much more interested by seeing moving shadows all around..

Lala shouted at the Yaaxil creatures "Hey Gollum you're so bad at hiding, i can see you clearly stupid !"

As our psycho adventurer discovered previously, the Yaaxil could perfectly understand what she was saying, so obviously it pissed them off so highly they attacked.
Lala , always the pyromaniac at heart, managed to set fire to one of them Yaaxil archers.
Seeing the burning corpse falling amused her a bit, madwoman psychopath she is.

Hearing Lala Craft singing "Burn baby, burn !" pissed off her enemies even more if it was possible.

But Lala had with her a good anti-Yaaxil solution : her trusty shotgun !
Let's say that what followed was a rather bad day for this Yaaxil colony.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

While exploring the area surrounding San Juan, Lala Craft ran into a rather amusing (at least to her) panel forbidding going that way.
Considering a whole mysterious path could be seen into unknown territory, Lala thought "yeah sure" and obviously moved there , discovering some nice place to hang around.

And of course there was another grotto with underground ruins , "what a surprise" Lala said with obvious irony.
The oddity of this one is that there the underground lake around it was filled with piranhas busy eating corpses of rotting Yaaxill creatures floating around.

"Poor Gollums, looks like they can't swim." Lala thought
After looting the place as usual, Lala decided to move back to San Juan to see if the trinity mercs finally arrived, she went from another way and ran into a lair of maned wolves

Stranges animals those maned wolves , they look like overgrown foxes but are called wolves, yet genetically they aren't neither wolves or foxes. And those animals in the real world actively avoid human presence, yet in the game for some reason they're berserked killing machines.

While pondering this oddity of the animal world and their game version, Lala forgot to shoot at them.
"Damn, can't even take time to think, oh well .. back to stabbing" , the wolves were surprised because they weren't expecting that the real predator in the area was in fact this psycho monster called Lala Craft.

Yeah, there's nothing like the feeling of empowerment when picking up a shotgun!

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

After coming back to San Juan, Lala Craft is now visiting the mission building itself, noticing that it was under repairs (those regular apocalyptic termors have hit the whole region) , trying to finally find the stolen mcguffin that the Yaaxil had failed to protect

Sidekick Jonah insisted in going along, probably some more headache for Lala when he'll decide to start his pseudo wisdom dialogues nonsense.

After finding some hidden entrance to an underground facility, Lala started to notice a lot of inverted crosses, seems there was some evil cult going on around there.

After finding plenty of mummies and corpses rotting around, attached to the roof or used as decorum, it became obvious this was some demonic death sect in there.

Once finding the mcguffin in the hands of the corpse of the cult leader Lala understood that as the legends mentionned , the mcguffin was really the same as the Lord of the Ring stuff : it was corrupting anyone that possessed it as that cult leader was originally a christian missionary that found and stole the mcguffin only to become some evil monstrous cult leader after that.

Lala thought "No wonder the gollums were keeping it, the whole stuff is just is just a bad imitation of the Tolkien's story..."

sigh.. and obviously it was then that the trinity mercs showed up suddenly, like in some of the worst badly wrote story in which the enemy simply pop up out of nowhere at the exact time to steal the mcguffin ... Lala really was rolling her eyes at the cringe from the situation.
Oh well, at least that means Stabbing Party was going to start soon !

Heh, the recent lull in Lala's bloodletting can only mean she will be back in business soon!

27. Narri offers me a warm welcome to Falkreath near the Hammerfell border.

28. I provide a favor to the good folks of Falkreath by ridding the town of its dragon infestation.

29. Back in Whiterun, my Redguard warrior babe follower, Rayya, poses for a shot outside of the merchandise and weapons dealer.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider

While annoying sidekick Jonah surprisingly proved to be useful by fetching the mcguffin and running away before the trinity mercs managed to get away with it, Lala Craft stayed behind because she had some unfinished business to attent to : the new Stabbing Party !

Poor trinity mercs, their HQ didn't told them about what happened to the other mercs they lost contact with once they crossed the path of the psychopathic killing machine called Lala .

Let's say that for the mercs it was a cutting edge discovery , but in the same time it was the last discovery of their life.

In the end , Lala decided to add some more variety and introduced her machine gun to the Stabbing Party when she saw the mercs were adding silly camo nets to their faces .
"Seriously you guys thought adding crap to your face would stop bullets ?" Lala thought.

The new industry standard in terms of ACTUALLY faithful & uncompromised remakes?
About 10 hours in I dare say it is.

The entrance to one of the new expanded story/quest-related locations(?) I stumbled upon during midnight rainstorm exploration of the exchange area's surroundings.
The score that starts when entering the cave is my favourite of Kai Rosenkranz' new compositions thus far - I think it's called "The Forgotten Mine".
The atmosphere in this little antechamber-like area alone is chef's kiss.
