Ueber: Do you play Civ4 for nostalgic reasons or is it your favourite part of the series?

ConsulCaesar: It is my favorite strategy game ever, period. :) I think the design of the different systems and mechanics is still unsurpassed to this day.
I really liked Civ4, but as I have never played any other entry of the series, I can not compare Civ4 to others. At least it seemed, I've chosen the right game.
And yet another Fantasy General 2 iron man game bites the dust, I belief i finally understand where my fault lies, ( at least in these missions )

Hoarding gold is just to much of a risk when playing iron man, i need to spend that money on mercenaries! And i was such exited with my line-up, had some good upgrades going on, had some interesting companions join me, such as that nest of shadowkittens

I'm decided on stay true to the turn based genre and continue on with the Craftworld Ealdari in Gladius 40k!

I've "maximized" my latest Paladin in Diablo II (lots of images). Now enjoying demon slaying with a new Amazon character.

Yeah, I have no need of a 3D remake to continue enjoying Diablo II forever :-D

hehehe

the dev's are also working on a new 4x game, sci fi , with a focus on warfare of course , curious to see how that one will turn out and... if they manage to uplift their ai to another level

always sucked as an eldar player btw, digital that is, i'm curious to see how this will turn out... high damage but quite fragile... fast , low pop growth, costly expansion rituals, warriors and the vehicles i have currently access to only cost food, which is quite easy ..... also playing this one for the story on normal diff... it should turn out oke.... though failure is always an option ;)
https://www.gamingonlinux.com/2021/06/creators-of-warhammer-40k-gladius-have-announced-their-new-4x-strategy-zephon

Coming along with Linux support (confirmed) just like their previous games, it looks like another enhancement on their existing engine setup used with their previous games with a brand new setting. ZEPHON is a post-apocalyptic 4X strategy game, where you guide survivors through a grim-dark future, navigating unexpected disasters, eldritch horror and cyberpunk monstrosities.

Humanity emerges, hesitantly, into ruination. Almost nothing is left of the world as we knew it—settlements, forests, seas, mountains—all have been blasted into unfamiliarity. Horribly mutated animals hunt in packs through deformed woodland. Decrepit military robots stumble unknowingly through the ruins, sensors and logic centres blown. Alien soldiers, once impossibly powerful, cower in the wrecks of their ships, praying to heedless gods for rescue.

On the planet Earth, that was once a cradle of life, the extinction of humanity is at hand.

What will you do to survive?

due somewhere next year so , until then it will be gladius :)

Gladius 40k

progressing quite nicely with the Eldar brothers and sisters. Destroyed a T'au faction, disabled some space marines, chopped the head of an Orc Warlord... Like ' yeah ' you know!

though i don't have a lot of time atm, i need to prepare the switch of a hard drive. bringing in a samsung evo 1 tb to replace the 500 gb m1 drive i'm using as a fast gaming drive. Started last night with transporting andromeda, jedi fallen order and nfsu heat, followed with the gog directory with games such as Cyberpunk and Horizon Zero Dawn. Transporting all the files took almost a full hour, especially verifying files on the sata drive is time consuming, downloading is almost at a point that you can say that your better of with removing and downloading then transporting using a hdd, so today follows the steam portion of the drive and then i'm ready for the switch

Finally checking out Gunpoint. Pretty excellent so far, so it's a real pity that many reviews list it as short

Planetfall easy my ass! i'm playing on the easiest of maps with the builder empire focus enabled and still it took me the better part of a year and several groups lost before i managed to take down this horrific combination.

only the higher art of the reconstruction enabled this victory! but the cost, 3 commanders lost, a whole lot of rediscovered alien tech ...

Finally getting round to Dishonored. I held off initially because I wasn't sure how well it would run on my laptop, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it actually runs extremely well. I can even run it on high settings, with the frame rate around 50ish most of the time (indoors - in large areas it drops a bit, but is still quite smooth).

Gameplay wise it really is worth all of its praise. The game is incredible and its scope impressive, with massive levels filled with people going about their business similar to the Hitman series. In addition to the locations being huge, there are surprisingly few places (outside of a level's edge) that you cannot reach. Dishonored might have the best level exploration mechanics I've seen in an FPS - jumping up to ledges feels intuitive and natural, and combined with its blink ability it allows you to reach just about any place you desire. On the downside exploration is perhaps a little too easy because of this, so it doesn't give you a real sense of accomplishment when you reach a place that looked like it would be hard to reach. This the the Thief series does better, which is a series it was obviously heavily clearly inspired by.

Briefly tried Chaos Theory again up to the 3rd level, and was dismayed to find that I just wasn't having any fun with it. I remember loving it the first time :( I don't know if it is the sluggishness of the movement, or the linearity of the levels (in stark contrast to the freedom afforded by Dishonored)
