2) History taught me that nations flourish only should they stick together in unison, with ethnical integrity and central power and that if you want to survive, you have to leave that shiny trojan horse present thing outside your walls. Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it and judging by your attitude (turn the other cheek, religious sentimentality over logic, history knowledge and common sense), you are in for a mighty destruction. But once again, you can't force me to be destroyed too, right next to you. I want out, thank you very much.

Neither the poster above nor I am trying "to use 'history' as a nebulous argument". There is a little misunderstanding and it's obviously our fault. In this context, almost every German would have recognized both statements as a reference to the 3rd Reich, but in a global forum we should have been clearer about it. Salience of this pattern is so high among Germans that we sometimes make the mistake to presume it's part of everybody's lifeworld. Mea culpa.
