Today we’re going to take a look back at the classic adventure game from Microids that was released in 2002. The original Syberia features the adventures of lawyer Kate Walker and her journey across Europe and Asia to find Hans Voralberg, a mysterious automaton inventor.

Did you know?

· The game was directed, written, and designed by Belgian comic book artist Benoît Sokal, who sadly passed away in May 2021. Among his most notable works was the Inspector Canardo comic series that featured an anthropomorphic duck detective.
· The story of Syberia is set in the same universe as Amerzone: The Explorer's Legacy, another adventure game from B. Sokal (you can find a few references to it here and there).
· Originally the script for Syberia was much longer, but the creators have decided to divide the stories into smaller pieces you can experience in Syberia II and Syberia 3 games.
· The game performed very well in sales – by 2017, when Syberia 3 was released, the original had sold over 3 million copies worldwide. It was named the best computer adventure game of 2002 by PC Gamer US, Computer Gaming World, GameSpot, and GameSpy.

The game’s development
Syberia was produced entirely in Montreal by 35 people under the direction of Benoît Sokal on a budget of €2 million. You can see some of the game’s creative process here.

R.I.P. Mr. Benoît Sokal. Seems like a great guy with a creative vision. Hope your legacy will live on.
Thanks, GoG for this now I'm gonna have to buy the rest of the series! :)

Hmmm, wait a sec...

Veery clever move GoG; touche'!

EDIT: Oops, wrong thread! Still, thanks for the freebies!

a whole section of ludic video history, a time where emotion still prevailed over violence.
Too bad Syberia 1 has never been remastered, it deserves it.

tout un pan de l'histoire video ludique, un temps où l'émotion primait encore sur la violence. Dommage que Syberia 1 n'ait jamais fait l'objet d'un remasterisation, il le mériterait.

You guys are awesome !! tnx for the free games ! as usual, you never disappoint !! Syberia 1 & 2 are in my top 10 of all time favorites !!!, 3 was pretty good too !! so sorry no #4 will be written by the orig artist !! Godspeed to him and peace for his family !! P.F.
Like these game features, quite a nice tool I don't think other stores have.
FYI - I wonder how many noticed, but just before the Syberia I & II giveaway, I noticed that Syberia 2 in my library had been renamed Syberia II. It begs the question why, as Syberia 3 is still called that and not Syberia III.

Also, once again, no Gift Code for me when I added the giveaway, even though I already owned both games here at GOG. They are just listed as a new purchase in my orders.
