'Survival horror' ... sounds like Christmas dinner with the relatives.

Most Horror FPS on hardest difficulty would probably count as survival games:
* Metro
* FEAR
* Doom 3
* Quake 4
* Condemned
* Aliens vs Predator ... at least playing as a marine
* Alien Colonial Marines ... yeah I know "bad game" blah blah, but it becomes a tough bastard on higher difficulty

Then there's these, ... again you'd probably want to raise the difficulty to get the experience you are seeking:
* Miasmata
* Pathologic
* Alan Wake
* Dead Space
* Alien Isolation
* System Shock 2 ... has always been very creepy to me
* Stalker ... often scared the crap out of me at least
* The Evil Within ... not much ammo regardless of difficulty
* Silent Hill ... I remember the first games being sparse and creepy

If you are looking for new games, indie ones, one of the channels I follow on youtube is MrKravin, he plays many horror games but is not a "screamer" like Markiplier and PewDiePie.
STALKER: Shadow of Detroit.
STALKER: Call of Collogne.

Dead Space series.

Another one that I quite like and that hasn't been mentioned yet is Ghosthunter. Unfortunately it's a PS2 exclusive, so I don't know how helpful that is for you.

bad_fur_day1: Silent Hill 2 and 3 for sure. Silent Hill 3 is really something else. Very much a counter part to Resident Evil, inventory management, similar gameplay, light puzzles.

Dead Rising 1. Amazing.

Manhunt. Survival and horror.
No it is not.

Classic Silent HIll games has no limited inventory.

Classic Silent Hill games gives players way too overpowered melee weapons (Looking at the Katana in SH 3). And in even on Normal mode you get way too much ammo.

Puzzles solving in Silent Hill is way WAY more cryptic and vague then even the Hardest RE puzzles.

Egh. I tried playing Amnesia and just couldn't stand how utterly stupid it was. I highly recommend AGAINST it. Completely illogical mechanics (you need to light candles and torches to give you light, you go around collecting tinderboxes, which are good for 1 use only, which is not what a tinderbox is/does at all, you can't light a candle with another candle, you can't light a torch with a candle, all the while struggling to find more tinderboxes so you can create more light.) NONSENSICAL. The entire setup seems contrived and lame. Ugh, definitely don't get Amnesia.

Check out PATHOLOGIC

Worth every penny! A completely unique and chilling experience. Scratch that. 3 completely unique and chilling experiences. Great stories. Dark. Superb. Fantastic. A must-play for those who like survival horror.
